seems to keep digging himself into a hole trying to play catch up so maybe just a natural response. Be interested to hear what else comes out of this. But yeh, doubt Hendo will be saying much on this. Wonder if Hendo is getting a good reception in Italy atm?

Maybe coincidence or not, but Bennett is the second Belkin/LottoNL guy to have low levels of cortisol before a GT.

Similar situation to Theo Bos in the start of Vuelta 2013.

BBC article on doping in amateurs, obviously focusing on the UK scene.

Does discuss Joe Papp, and includes some quotes

"You could buy enough EPO to last a season for [£1,000]. When you think that a pair of carbon-fibre racing wheels can cost [£2,000], the cost of EPO wasn't really a limiting factor," he explained.

"I remember what struck me about many of my clients was how excited, almost giddy, they were to finally have the opportunity to find out how far they could push their bodies.

"Emulating the pro lifestyle included doping for many of them.

Worth a read.

yeah, good article.
who would that veteran of the british time trial scene be?

I love this bit about Shermer, a specialist in debunking pseudoscience. Goes to show that the only pseudoscience is the BS we're being sold by the likes of Brailsfraud and JV.
Debunking pseudoscience is his speciality but Shermer has also written widely about cycling's doping crisis, an area rich in bogus theorising and claims of supernatural performance. He is not remotely surprised that some amateurs take extreme measures for such small financial rewards; if anything, he is surprised that anybody is surprised.

Fatal poisoning with cocaine and tramadol in a former pro

V. Lelong-Boulouard, J. Bourgine, A. Cesbron, A. Coquerel, M. Loilier, R. Le Boisselier, D. Debruyne:
Fatal poisoning with cocaine and tramadol in a former professional cyclist
Toxicologie Analytique et Clinique, Volume 27, Issue 2, Supplement, June 2015, Pages S46–S47
We describe a case of an acute overdose in a former professional cyclist with a heavy past of doping and drug addiction. A 31-years-old man was admitted in hospital for generalized tonico-clonic seizures concomitant with hyperthermic syndrome and unstable hemodynamic status. During his transport to the emergency department, he presents two cardiopulmonary arrest, which required an external electric shock and adrenaline administration. History of the disease revealed that patient is in a context of benzodiazepines withdrawal. He complained for five days about shivers, sweats, headaches and nausea with change of his general state. Moreover, he would have taken cocaine at night previous his admission.

Damien Ressiot (the journalist who dug up and exposed Armstrongs 1999 EPO positives) is now working for OCLAEPS (Office central de lutte contre les atteintes à l'environnement et à la santé publique), a part of the National Gendarmerie.

Says he worked on the cases of Laila Traby (long distance runner, home raideded by OCLAEPS, EPO positive) and Bertrand Moulinet (race walk, FG-4592 positive, had his home raided by OCLAEPS).

Michael's insight here was great.

He also sent me a great take on the really radical anti-doping crusading (like what's been manifest on social media). I'll have to see if I still have the email and if he'd mind if I shared what he wrote, but it had to do w/ various morality-related behaviors & thought processes ... idk, he just gave such a good, succinct summary of what he saw as the relevant motivators beyond just not liking doping in cycling.

He's really interesting.

what is interesting, it can be delineated on an Anglophone puritan line.

Tour des Fjords organiser refuses entry to CCC & Astana

Tour des Fjords organiser refuses entry to CCC & Astana

http://www.crankpunk.com/blogs/crankpunk/item/864-tour-des-fjords-organiser-refuses-entry-to-ccc-astana.html

Roy Hegreberg, Race Director of the Tour des Fjords, is said to have denied entry to the Norwegien race to both CCC and Astana.

Polish team CCC were told that their presence was not wanted thanks to them signing dopers Davide Rebellin and Stefan Schumacher.

"They are one of the teams who have had problems with the reputation," said Hegreberg to Procycling.no yesterday. "We think it is important to show a new sport. A lot has happened in this sport that is not good. Many teams have taken issue with it, but it does not seem that everyone takes it seriously."

Schumacher was contacted by Procycling.no for his reaction and asked why he thought he was unwelcome at the race.

"I did not know about it before you said it, so it's hard for me to comment on anything surrounding it. I must admit that I've made mistakes in the pass. It's not just me in my generation though. Many people have made mistakes, and many of them have got the opportunity to come back. I had the opportunity in this team, and I am grateful for that," said Schumacher. "I've had my sanctions, and have served them. I regret what I did, but I've also changed. I rode clean the past seven years. I think everyone should get a second chance, and it is also in line with the regulations."
.....
......
........
This decision though need to be applauded, however it should - indeed must, to have any validity - be applied consistently.

Garmin, Tinkoff, Lampre, Movistar, etc. etc. out of the Tour de France, anyone?

Last 2 lines nails the problem. Why stop with CCC & Astana when they are all doping and known dopers!

If they do so, no team will be able to join
