German shampoo brand Alpecin will be the new name sponsor for Giant-Shimano, for 4 years.

Their slogan? "Doping for your hair". I ain't kidding.

Kittel riding for a team sponsored by a shampoo brand? Perfect!

Yeah with Kittel and that ironic doping slogan this may be one of the most fitting sponsor deals I could remember! :D:D

They won't use that slogan in combination with their cycling-team. But I thought about it too, for a sec or two.

The host city of 2017 UCI Road World Championships will be announced today in Ponferrada.

According to the president of the Norwegian Cycling Federation UCI has had several meetings with the Bogotá arrangement committee lately, and he thinks it is between Bogotá and Bergen. The other candidates are Innsbruck and Melbourne.

Nothing wrong with giving it to Bergen. Bergen was already screwed by the UCI for money when they picked Qatar over Bergen for 2016. Norway has some talented upcoming riders and Bergen and unlike Qatar Bergen can actually deliver a good route for racing.

Of course, Bogota would have been epic and I hope they will bid again like Bergen and take it maybe 2018 or something, but Bergen should be just fine.

Hey, Quatar has a great route! Pan flat for 250 kilometers. But still a festival of echelons. And I love those. Will be an awesome race, fore sure. Boonen will take it, of course. :p

How many stages in the tour of Qatar end in echelons?

...and there are no nice places to go in South America?

Besides, we'll get the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Granted, the UCI would probably give us a horrible flat course in Buenos Aires or Montevideo or something, but there are lots of places that could produce a really good race in a beautiful setting in South America.

This year 2/5 stages that had echelons.

And 3 sprints, however one stage had a tough sprint where Boonen won and that says it all. Boonen would not win a pure flat stage nowdays unless the stage is hard enough and it was due to wind.

In 2013 none really, and in 2012 2 stages out of 5 had echelons. In 2011, 3.

Admitted, I don't know much about the subject, but I think I recall Someone mentioning that echelons in Qatar are a lot more common in early spring when Tour of Qatar is held, than in September when the Worlds is held.

But of course... I wouldn't put it past the Qatari to put huge fans along the route... or build a mountain, or both.

Andrey Kashechkin wants to start his own cycling team. He already has one sponsor, the one that backed him when he went to Lampre, AMPO. But they don't give enough money to back the team, so he's trying to get more sponsors to start this project.
