Only gradient wise, the longer climbs favours a lot more the climbers. Last year we had van der Poel in the top 10, something impossible on this route, probably it's too hard even for the 2010 god mode Gilbert.
Van der Poel in top 10 is a COVID schedule anomaly. Only 7 riders, all GT or supposed GT riders, survived the Muro di Sormano, and Van der Poel finished 6 minutes down.

Also Gilbert would never win on the Civiglio route either.

In 2017 we had Moscon and Chernetski in the top 10, Como route is hard but not exclusive for climbers. Anyway Lombardia historically has been a lot more open than the Como route that's already a lot stretched toward climbers.

AGR organizers have agreed to hold their race a week earlier in 2022 to not be ridden in the same weekend as PR. Good solution for PR colliding with the elections in France.

Might be an incentive for some cobble riders to extend their classics season a week till LBL.

At 17:00 CEST today Joss Lowden will attempt to break the hour record currently held by Vittoria Bussi (48.007 km) in Grenchen, Switzerland. She managed to do it training earlier this year, so I expect her to succeed. I sadly won't have time to watch it, but it will be shown live on both Eurosport and on YouTube:

Tomorrow at 16:00 CEST her partner and aero expert extraordinaire, Dan Bigham, will try to better Bradley Wiggins' British hour record (54.526 km). Because he isn't a part of the UCI testing pool, he can't get the world record, even if he should manage to go further than Victor Campenaerts (55.089 km). He claimed he did 54.781 km with a flying start on Odense Cykelbane in Denmark back in July, so it shouldn't be impossible for him to reach his goal either.

Why would you even ride a full hour after a flying start?
 
There are rumours that the city of Vejle want to organise a one-day race - and apply for it to part of the WorldTour.

It seems quite ambitious to think that a race can just barge into the finest calendar but definitely interesting news.
Depends on if you have the oil $$$$$.

I'm all for adding more big one day races ot the calendar rather than stage races in places where nobody cares about cycling tbh.

What date do they want on the calendar?

So, we just need to invade Norway? They're the Scandinavian Oil Country.

But it's not like oil and gas haven't made us richer though.

I don't care about the Danish conti riders in this case, but if it becomes a WT race I sure hope they will be able to properly organize it.
And if they could manage to hold a women's race alongside it, I wouldn't mind that either.

I woudl not mind to have both a better one day schedule for both the climby boys and the rouleur boys after La Vuelta.

Vejle Kommune ønsker blandt andet at være kendt som Kingdom of Cycling og for at vedligeholde og udbygge dette tema foreslås det, at Vejle Kommune ansøger om at blive godkendt som vært for et cykelløb på den internationale world tour. En eventuel godkendelse vil ikke være bindende. En ansøgning vil koste 100.000 kr.

Sagsfremstilling
Vejle Kommune ønsker blandt andet at være kendt som Kingdom of Cycling. Det årlige besøg af PostDanmark Rundt og i 2022 besøget af verdens største cykelløb, Tour de France, er understregninger af ambitionen og at Vejle Kommune har noget særligt at tilbyde i forhold til cykling.

For at bygge videre på ambitionen om at være Kingdom of Cycling og udbygge fortællingen herom, samt det stærke brand, foreslås det, at ansøge Den internationale cykleunion, UCI, om at godkende Vejle Kommune som vært for et professionelt cykelløb på den såkaldte World Tour. Godkendelsen vil ikke være bindende.

Ideen er, at arrangere et endagsløb i og omkring Vejle, der som nævnt tilbyder noget unikt for både ryttere, tv og tilskuere. Løbet vil være en del af World Touren, som er er den bedste internationale serie af landevejscykelløb. Serien består af ca. 36 løb.

DE FØRSTE SKRIDT
For at løfte en sådan opgave har Vejle Kommune behov for en ekstern samarbejdspartner. Det første skridt i processen vil være at der udarbejdes en kvalificeret ansøgning til UCI om at Vejle Kommune ønsker at blive godkendt som vært og arrangør for et cykleløb på World Touren. Det vil være den eksterne samarbejdspartner, der med sine kompetencer, viden og erfaring vil stå for denne ansøgning i samarbejde med Vejle Kommune. Denne ansøgning skal indsendes i oktober måned og der forventes svar i marts 2022. Prisen for denne ansøgning er 100.000 kr., som finansierer konsulentydelsen fra den eksterne samarbejdspart og en betaling til UCI for behandling af ansøgningen.

DE FØLGENDE SKRIDT
I fald Vejle Kommune modtager en positiv tilbagemelding fra UCI skal der efterfølgende afklares hvordan konstruktionen omkring løbet skal se ud. Det vil være oplagt at undersøge mulighederne for samarbejde med andre kommuner, ligesom der også i denne del af projektet vil være behov for en eller flere eksterne samarbejdspartnere, som har erfaring med sådanne store sportevents. Den samlede økonomi forventes at være ca. 7,5 mio. kr. pr. løb. Den kommunale del af denne vil afhænge af samarbejde med andre kommuner, aftale med eksterne samarbejdspartnere (og herunder sponsorindtægter) m.m. Derudover vil den kommunale opgave være forbundet med vejafspærringer, sikring af de rette tilladelser og lignende.

KOMMUNAL INTERESSE
Vejle Kommune ønsker blandt andet at være kendt som Kingdom of Cycling, hvilket engagementet i PostDanmark Rundt, DM i Landevejscykling i Give i 2021 samt startby for 3. etape af Tour de France i 2022 vidner om. Et fast world tour løb vil i høj grad bidrage til denne fortælling om Vejle Kommune – både nationalt og internationalt. Løbet vil således ikke kun tiltrække nationale og internationale turister til området, men løbet vil også blive dækket af national og international presse og blive tv-transmitteret. Et sådan tilbagevendende løb må endvidere forventes at understøtte og udbygge samarbejdet med foreninger og frivillige om, at stable store og prestigefyldte arrangementer på benene, og dermed også kunne bidrage med erfaringer frem mod DGIs landsstævne i Vejle i 2025.

I forbindelse med DM i landvejscykling i Give i 2021 var det VisitVejles vurdering, at et værtsskab for DM i landevej i 2020 vil medføre en turismeøkonomisk effekt på minimum 2.490.000 kr. Hertil skal lægges den øvrige handel. Der forventedes minimum 1.500 overnatninger alene i weekenden, dertil kommer ugerne og månederne op til afviklingen af løbet, hvor ryttere fra hele landet kom til Give for at træne på ruten.

ØKONOMI
Kultur- og Idrætsudvalgets råderum er aktuelt brugt for både 2021 og 2022. I forbindelse med det indgåede budgetforlig er de resterende midler i den centrale reservepulje disponeret for resten af 2021.

Dani Bigham did 54.723 km, so almost 200 metres more than Wiggins. He paced himself well and upped the speed in the last 30 minutes, but lost a bit of it again towards the end. Hopefully he will able to attract the necessary sponsorships to go for the world record next.
