No Civiglio in Il Lombardia
When I first read that a couple of weeks ago, my expectation was a re-run of the 2022 route, but with the first half of the Civiglio descent climbed and then continued to Tavernerio and then with the main road back to the 2022 route as substitute for Civiglio.

How is that better than the one in Armchair's tweet?

No climbing after Ghisallo seems too little for this race.
I think the one in Armchair’s comment would be bad news for the race—because even if the plan for this year is meant to be temporary, organizers will realize that money to be made from VIP tents along the finishing circuit will want to keep that as part of the race, as they did at RvV. Really prefer that monuments stay away from repetitive finishing circuits. It’s okay at world’s because the course is different every year.

Cycling News has banner ad to Get Soda Out of Sports!?
Huh? What? We have had decades of bipolar swings in information, currently pro riders and high level hobbyist and age grade athletes are using sugar substances of all kinds, drinks, gels, bars, blocks, cubes. Current Vuelta Espana leader is bucking the keytones trend and guzzling a can of Coke immediately after the stage, numerous riders seen getting canned soda in late race feeds. Kern Pharma? Don't know if they do carbonated.. But US market for sports drinks is big, all my local races are sponsored by soda companies to some degree. Most frequently used start finish line props are large inflated Powerade @20 ft tall structures!!
$26 billion dollars in US..
I am personally not conflicted even a little bit, please keep dumping money into sports..thank you sugar water, sugar cubes, sugar syrup industry!!!

After 43 years Zalf, one of the big Italian u23 (and before that amateur) teams calls it a day.
Just look at the names of a few riders who rode for them: Ivan Basso, Maurizio Fondriest, Paolo Savoldelli, Michele Scarponi, Alessandro Bertolini, Marzio Bruseghin, Alessandro Ballan, Damiano Cunego, Domenico Pozzovivo, Sonny Colbrelli, Gianni Moscon.

They were declining a bit over the last few years, but that might just be Italian cycling still being very old fashioned and stuck in it's old ways. Someone like De Pretto went straight to WT after riding for them and he's becoming a really solid rider.

Why is that a problem? It's not like PR is dirt because it's a week after De Ronde...

But yeah, a bit odd with two championships races so close to each other. But it's not like this year is much different.

Roubaix is 40 kilometers from Oudenaarde, the Ardeche almost 10000 from Rwanda. Bit of a weird comparison, even besides the fact that riders make Worlds their main goal and won't be focused on EC (probably more on Lombardia).

It is obviously possible to do both, but it's far from ideal and combining WC roads with EC TT is completely impossible.

I was just thinking it's a bit of a bad spot a week after the Worlds but I could be completely wrong and it's actually really good.

Actually, there shouldn't be much of a jet lag, maybe a bit of a temperature shock but it's still France so shouldn't be too stupid. Route is pretty Emilia-esque so it should be enticing to all Euro climbers who still have some form to roll with at the end of the season.
