That was the guess that got many Twitterers irate: This is the actual route, announced this morning:

Happier?
The best I could realistically hope for. Very good to see Sormano back, but I guess we won't see the Muro for a long while.
If that descent is deemed off limits, it's either the proposed revision, the "old" route of the Bettini editions, or Sormano from the other side.

Good parcours for Remco and Roglič to put up a challenge against Pogačar.

Sormano without the Muro is a good climb for Remco because its not very steep and for Roglič the fact the hardest climb of the race comes just after 210km should also suit him.

Might ruin plans for a lot of things. UCI eventually decides the calendar. Maybe IOC can push the road race to the end of the month, which gives TDF more time, for example to finish TDF the 16th of July 2028.

Athletics and swimming are switching places for the LA games with athletics taking place in the first week. So switching a high profile event like cycling road races to the final weekend could be an attractive proposition.

Is it a high profile event? No clue what the viewing figures are compared to other sports

An estimated half a million spectators watched the event in person.

Yeah, in Paris. In Los Angeles you might get tousands of homeless wandering around near the race circuit if you place it in the right area, but that's about it.

It was established in the Olympics thread that it is the biggest event of the Olympics.

Now we just need to convince the IOC of that fact, so they'll allow two full-scale pelotons, and have the races be over 200 K.
Yes, I know UCI doesn't allow women's races to be that long, but they got four years to realise that women - at least properly trained ones - can indeed handle distances.

Women's maximum race lengths are overdue for an increase in general, in recent years just about every 250k+ men's race is more selective than the female equivalent for said race (Paris-Roubaix is the best example) and the Tour gets exemptions on the regular anyway. In addition, history and distance are what make the monuments and the women's versions of Ronde, Roubaix and Liège don't stand out in either aspect right now.

Milano Sanremo for women to start with a Genova start in 2025?

I've seen a lot of people complain about this, but I don't care, I think it's good enough. People who think a bunch of zone 1 riding makes Sanremo hard are out of their mind.

It gets the pretty pictures, it gets the Capi, Cipressa and Poggio, and that's all you need.

We'll see once it gets confirmed, but I'm more inclined to believe the rumours of it starting in Arenzano or close to it (for the first edition at least), so they won't have to use any roads that aren't already part of the men's route. In the future, I'd like it to start somewhere like Ovada, so Turchino could also be part of the race.

WC 2025 route has been announced.

ITT: 40km, 600m altitude
RR: 267.5km, 5475m altitude

ITT will be something for Evenepoel again if he’s in form, and the RR for any climber. Hopefully Vingegaard will join the race.

So no Mount Kigali as the final lap after all, which makes this a fantastic route. The main circuit reminds me a lot of Mendrisio.

And yes, Vingegaard should absolutely give this a proper shot. At the very least, he has a great chance of a medal in the TT.
