So much for the espirit of the 100th Tour de France.
Young guy riding his first tour. Beaten up on stage 1 and a gallic shrug when he misses the time cut by a few seconds.

How French is that ???
Sickening.

Tough call, but I see nothing wrong with it.
If a large grupetto comes in OTL, they also need to exit the race.

" the espirit of the 100th Tour de France "

I didn't miss the point.
I see no conflict. There is a rule in place, UCI made a tough call. This isn't a charity, its a competition with rules.

Perhaps noone likes the rule, but thats a different story (at least to me).

It's his own team's fault for riding away from him instantly... If they had any brains they would have taken it easy like Argos. Everyone knew the rules well in advance and he didn't make it. Disappointing for the rider, but fair.

amen

and all the fuss about it, it's ridiculous. this is le tour, a race of survival not a tv reality show where you can beg for mercy to be kept in

Agree that its his own team's fault, especially as they werent fighting either for stage victory or leader jersey.

Just saw the Eneco Tour 2013 route, I don't know if the route has been made public for long or not, but I didn't see it before. Seems to be pretty good actually for Eneco Tour standards. 3 sprint stages, an uphill/reduced sprint, a Flemish Ardennes stage finishing in Geraardsbergen and an Ardennes stage finishing on La Redoute. The TT is 13,5km in Limburg and has two climbs in it.

So it's the same as last year except a Ardennes stage instead of a flat one? And ITT instead of TTT.

Oh I see it now. They skipped the TTT and is replaced by the Ardennes stage.

Stage 1 : Koksijde - Ardooie (166.1 km) sprint
Stage 2 : Ardooie - Brussel (168.1 km) slightly hilly with an uphill finish
Stage 3 : Oosterhout - Brouwershaven (185.5 km) sprint/maybe echelon
Stage 4 : Essen (Bel) - Vlijmen (176.3 km) sprint
Stage 5 : Sittard-Geleen I.T.T. (13.5 km) ITT with 2 small hills
Stage 6 : Riemst - Aywaille (154.1 km) Ardennes stage finishing on La Redoute
Stage 7 : Tienen - Geraardsberge (208.4 km) Flanders stage

Again, for Eneco standards it's pretty good. Not too much TT and at least two, selective stages, stage 2 could be selective as well and three might end in echelons.

Now I'm sad...

it seems like they are hanging on every year. I don't remember how long, but at least for 5 years, in August, the news of "Euskaltel in trouble" comes out.

Euskaltel should try to just find some small sponsors (find enough sponsors to fund just the basic needs of running a team) and take a step down to pro conti.

Hopefully something like this, wouldn't want to see them disappear. How about Orbea?

It would be so sad if they go. They may not have the results of some high budget teams but when they win its usually a great solo effort from one of their riders. Lets hope there is sponsor out there that likes their individual style.

Much more entertaining and fun for the fans than a team of domestiques stopping other teams riding.

TDU 2014 route seems to be out.

Stage 1: Finish after Menglers Hill, similar to the stage Freire won in 2012 only this time they finish in Angaston as was suggested back then, so ~10km from the top of the climb to the finish as opposed to 20 or so.

Stage 2: Typical Stirling stage, only 3 laps of the finish this time which is fair enough as the circuit isn't hard enough over 150km to force anything other than tough sprint.

Stage 3: Corkscrew, finish is about the same distance from the climb as last year.

Stage 4: Victor Harbor, first true sprint. Might be some wind if lucky.

Stage 5: Wilunga

Stage 6: Adelaide circuit is apparently different this year but no details. I hope they haven't taken out the mighty Montefiore Hill.

Looks like it will be a good course. The race shouldn't be too hard early in the year but there are enough features to make it interesting.
