Boonen was really lucky to have Maes in support there, or he would have been dropped.

Yes and no. It's a bit double. Maes couldn't get the gap any closer so in the end he still had to make the jump alone.

I was on the telephone for a moment and have only shortly seen an etix rider, possibly Zdenek Stybar very angry, what has happened?

That was Maes. On an open part Dimension Data pulled the speed up a little bit while Boonen and Maes were at the back. Westra who was just gobbled up by the group had to let go and let a gap infront of them.
Maes tried to close the gap for Boonen, but he couldn't so Boonen had to go around him and sprint to the first group. Boonen looked good there, but Maes had to let the first group go together with Amador, Kump and Berden De Vries I think.

Sagan without teammates is also crappy for him.

Just remember Sagan had a choice between a bigger contract or a better team to support him. He took the money. He made the choice to be isolated and have to get his own supplies.

I guess I missed it, but which team did Sagan have the opportuinity to join? The one with the better team.

What does the Tinkoff rider do at the front of peloton? Is he trying to decrease the tempo or is he an idiot?

Yes, he had to do the last bit on his own, which is logical. But Maes did a very important job.

which team was that?

BMC, Sky, Lotto Soudal (ok Lotto soudal would be a lot less money, but hey, great support)

BMC already has problems with gilbert and avermaet wanting to do the classics. putting sagan in the mix would be even worst.

This is really turning out to be a great edition again, still 90km to go with most hills, but we've already had lots of racing, it kind of came back together but it will all fall apart again when they go hard over the hills. :)

Ok, so no choice at all. Noone with brain goes to Sky, Lotto is low cost and BMC with Gilbert and van Avermaet doesn't make a sense...
