Welsh cyclist Geraint Thomas is leading Team Sky in the 2017 Giro d'Italia, which starts on 5 May.

BBC Wales Sport caught up with the double Olympic gold medallist at a team training camp in Tenerife. He talks about his ambition to cement his status as a team leader by winning the event.

He also talks about his moral obligations as a Team Sky cyclist following recent speculation surrounding Bradley Wiggins and therapeutic use exemptions (TUEs).

A week or so ago there was a CN piece where Thomas said that his performances in the stage races during the spring were a wake up call. Wonder what he "started" doing differently.

The article was in procyclistese, but in plain English it was a pre-emptive explanation for his coming level up in the giro.

Super win today. Now if he remembers to wash his hands everyday in the Giro and Sky don't drop the ball and forget to watch the other teams on some random stage, the Giro will have it's first British winner.

Sky just don't seem to get it right at the Giro, not sure what they are doing wrong with the preparation for the race but it's the GT when the wheels fall off.

Hard to win the Giro only riding by the powermeter and loaded on PEDs, it's too unpredictable.

Geezus has taken on the LRP role at Sky - sometime in a GT you knew he'll blow up, get sick or somehow lose 8 minutes on a stage. Landa seems to have the same probs so far at Sky - could blow up spectacularly at the Giro.

All learnt by going round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round a track, then spending a few years in the gruppetto and riding the northern classics. Without that dedication and prep work, that move would never, ever happen.
