kinda nuts to realize if Thomas was called up to the Tour he could very well be above Bernal right now.

Well he's the expert.Sir Bradley suggested in the Eurosport post-race studio that his long-time love Geeeeeeeeeeee and Castroviejo can still use their depth in numbers to get Geeeeeeeeeeee back in the GC, because this Giro is so hard to control.

Could get out an maybe try for La Vuelta?Couldn’t watch the stage today and when I’d heard that Thomas had fallen in the neutral zone I thought ‘here we go again’.
Having watched the video of the crash, there is very little that could have been done. He went down hard and he’s lucky he’s not got broken bones, rotten luck and I guess it might be time to focus on 2021 and making sure he is in form at the correct time.

Four if Bernal decides to join Vuelta too. It would be hilarious if half of Ineos's team are GT winners.Nasty crash. I'm not a fan of his, not one bit, but it hurts when you think about the amount of work and preparation that it takes to contend in a GT. All that wasted because of lady bad luck.
Welcome to my world, GT fans . Now it's the debate "live to fight another day" and quit or "finish what you started" and stay. Lose-lose proposition: quit and crows will chant "weak, weak, weak", or stay and be an also-ran.
If the Bernal model is the model, GT won't finish Il Giro. And that could be "Ineos is the new Movistar" showing up with three leaders at La Vuelta.
Yes but I don't see why they wouldn't give him permission.Won't they have to get permission from the UCI to allow him to start la Vuelta. Remember there is a rule about you can't leave one race to start another one. La Vuelta starts before the Giro finishes. We're talking two weeks/less than 2 weeks before la Vuelta starts.

Well said, my sentiments exactly.Nasty crash. I'm not a fan of his, not one bit, but it hurts when you think about the amount of work and preparation that it takes to contend in a GT. All that wasted because of lady bad luck.

I want to see him race the cobbles again before the end of his career. With this bad luck at the Giro today he might find the lifestyle and the sacrifices of another season built around GT GC racing too much with all the talk of him not enjoying the monk life enabling that. After all, Ineos could really need some northern classics results again and Doull and Rowe seem to miss the last bit needed in the big races like Flanders and Roubaix. Thomas got the engine, previous results in semi classics and races like E3 and would be a wasted talent without returning to those races. Might still super dom Bernal at the Tour or have a go at the Vuelta later in the year (Don't think he cares about that race though).
The biggest miracle to me is that he's managed to stay upright long enough to amass the incredible palmarès that he has, especially when you consider he only really converted to specialising in stage racing because he kept wasting his classics seasons by smashing everybody to all parts in races like E3 and then crashing out before we could see him when it mattered in de Ronde or Roubaix.
Nope, he won't start today.Fingers crossed he's doing Froomscape 2018 (stage 19).
