38 not as strong as he was in his peak but still battling after winning tour etc, sacrifising everything to continue going in GC at this age, speak alot of the hearth of this one.

A true gentleman too so it seem atleast. A cycling royalty from this generation in many aspects other than on the bike itself for me. Deserves respect , gratz on your podium.

99% sure this is the last GT podium. Even if he tried next year (which I doubt, and only should be possible in the Giro at this point) surely its over now.

Could be a great all-round dom and maybe give the classics a shot, something like an Andrey Amador when he still could climb.

Good performance and minus one stage a strong contender to finish second overall. Nonetheless Thomas was rather consistent through the whole race and finished on the podium, again.

P.S. Obviously that is a very strong sign, Thomas will never finish on a GT podium again, as media started to spin this.

I still continue to think peak Geraint Thomas, was Geraint Thomas version Tour France 2022, not Geraint Thomas version Tour France 2018.

In the Tour France 2022, he had to ride in a way that was not comfortable zone for him, and he succeded well, because he was by far the third best climber. He dropped all the other GT riders except for Vingegaard and Pogacar.

It's something that not happened in this Giro, clearly the age started to affected him, and that's something normal.

I think he'll go for the cobbles next year, Wiggo's style. I'd love to see him have one last go at Roubaix
I hope he doesn't. It wasn't that special with Wiggo and I'm quite sure it's not going to be for him.. Well how people think it of course, from racing protective or just to participate? I'm guessing his racing days are gone after this season. Super career anyways.

Stranger things have of course happened, but Thomas has a contract for next year as well.

I don’t disagree.

He was also looking like the favorite for the Giro in 2020 when he hit the water bottle in the neutral zone. He could very well have won given that Tao was his domestique.

Thomas has a very decent track record on (mostly flandrien) cobbles, which Wiggins lacked. I think could be better for him tbh

If he went for Roubaix next year, it would be coming full circle. After all, when Wiggins made the final group of 10 in the 2014 P-R, there was another Team Sky rider in the group: Thomas.
He could top 10 if he trained specifically for it. No need to get GC lean, for example. Just keep grinding along.

True, I guess we all know how more punchy and more Classics able he was back then. I'm just guessing he has came so far after those days, that maybe it's not going to happen. At least that's how it sounds to me when listening his podcast.

Then again he lately said in a pod that it's always the same thing right after the race; never again, but few days later he's thinking, well what's next in the calendar.

But the young generation swing is really rough at the moment, same Tadejs Remcos Mathieus Vouts etc etc are lined up there at the cobbles and classics. It's never getting easier, they just go faster.

the new Thomas is Jorgenson. 1 Paris-Nice each and Dwars/E3 each. Thomas won Algarve, Matteo won Oman. Thomas won Dauphiné, Matteo got 2nd.

Caveat here is that I'm not British and I don't really read British media that much, so this might not apply to those who do, but do I feel that Thomas is slightly underappreciated and has not really been taken as seriously as he deserves. Maybe because every year since 2019 has brought the 'is he done now?' discussion, only for him to prove everyone wrong a few months later, after that discussion has already been concluded in his disfavour.

His standing as a great cyclist might also have suffered a bit from the success of Wiggins and Froome. But at least he has the 'normal and likeable guy' reputation going for him.
