Belkin just posted on facebook that Gesink will go to the Sierra Nevada altitude training camp, he will then start the Dutch national championships and participate in the Vuelta a espana in august.

I think that means he will not be starting in the tour, which i think is a great decision.

He still doesn't rule out a Tour participation, it says in an article elsewhere. Which makes sense, why else would he go on altitude training?

saying that doesn't make it true. every posr you have is defending them pretty much with any desperate argument you can make.

He will look how that goes and then decide if he goes for Tour or Vuelta..

He will meet Rui Costa and Nelson Oliveira then. :)

Oh man how nice will it be if Gesink wins the Nat Champs.

Hope so. He deserves that jersey more than anyone. :)

Any profile or map of the course? Let's discuss Gesink's tactics for the win.

Dutch altimetery... :p

I have my hopes. Also I don't see the point in placing the finnish line in the middle of that bump and not at the top of it...

edit: nevermind, it is onbviously not a 'bump'.

Wise decision on the whole.

Not going forced into TDF and getting all press **** again when he doesn't perform.
Besides, I think the Vuelta is the best GT for Gesink. Often a weaker field or burned out top contenders, so biggest chance of getting a podium or better. I mean, if P.Velits can podium:eek:

There's always a few Spaniards who are better. And maybe Quintana will ride as well?

Yeah, these four should be the top dogs:

Will be hard for Gesink to podium, but who knows. Depends on how good he will be, as I think he got a good chance to beat at least one of them if he's at his best.

Not always. And even they sometimes seem fatigued. Rodriguez 2011 for example wasn't that great and fresh in the Tour anymore.

You mean the Vuelta, I guess. Yeah, could be (although not for Purito this year, who has done just a few stages in the Giro and will probably be great in the Vuelta).

First let's see at what level Gesink returns, he's become an enigma in terms of (climbing) form.

Very promising.
All ahead of him in the GC are stronger though except for Anacona. But Martin and Navarro seem (slightly) stronger too. Could finish anywhere between 8th and 10th. But I hope he keeps attacking when he can. It'll give him more morale and belief

I don't think Martin is that dangerous. He always crack at some point in the high mountains.

And Navarro isn't that good that he will get 1.30 on Gesink.

8th place looks certain to me.

If Gesink wants a stage he has to go long(ish). Doing that carries an increased risk of cracking significantly. Martin has had the climbing edge so far, but he will certainly attack a lot and also might explode badly. In both cases I'd rather they kept attacking rather than fighting over which lower top 10 spot they end up with - although I don't think Martin should be trying from as far out.

I'm actually glad to see him "trying", well knowing of his recent heart issue. I must confess that at some point I wanted him to win the stage, but noticed he attacked too soon & was gasping for air before he got caught...

good for him :)

Says he doesn't really care about his 10th place today, but he's happy with the way he raced. He says he will certainly attack more the coming days. Yay Gesink! :)

And on another note, Kelderman says 12th/13th is his place in this race and he sounds like he's gonna settle with that. Please Wilco quit the race so you don't get overraced or forget the GC and target stage wins. Who cares about 13th?!
