I just can't fathom why you would be suprised by that.

His only results in Europe after 2005, were in mountain time trials. That would suggest he is very good at them, and is even good at them when the form isn't appearently there.
Now the form is there as well. You would almost expect a top 5 right? He was 6th in the Kronplatz in 2008 when he was nowhere in the other stages.
Why would you be SUPRISED by a top 5? Not saying that he will finish there, but how could it possibly be suprising? I can't understand

Because all the first part is slightly downhill/flat and I think he's gonna lose some time there, so it's not exactly a kronplatz.
And the most important thing... how could I expect him to get to top 5, when i have already listed 5 men?!?!? :D

I'm sorry have I been watching a different race?

How could anyone select anyone but AC?

If Contador doesn't win, I will be shocked.

A beast the last 7 days.

Contador
Rujano
Garzelli

A couple of points would be very helpful to Garzelli, but I'm not sure how he will go after Sunday's effort. I guess it depends on how much rest he got in the hotel.

Funny poll. Who will be stupid enough not to pick Contador?

EDIT: bingo.

I liked Rujano for this one before the Giro.
I think he'll do well. Maybe the first 5km will hinder him??

But yeah AC will probably win this.

How come the winner of the Plan de Corones(kronplatz) isn't considered as favorite for this?
Garzelli can very well take this one-along with Conta. I count Rujano out-not because he isn't suited for the climb but because of his TT abilities. Nibali might surprise though...

Garzelli was 40s slower than Contador's 2008 time.

Garzelli focused on that stage, not over-exerting himself on the Zoncolan (as opposed to Evans...) before the rest day. This time around he rode three mountains and 60-70km solo before the rest day.

Somebody has to mention Stetina. OK, here, for a top 10.

A top 10 in the last third of his first GT would be an extremely impressive result. I'd like to see it, but at a guess I think he'll do well to get a top 20.

Menchov, Contador, Nibali, Kreuziger, Anton and JROD are my favourites for the win. Gadret out only because of ITT

Gadret will top 10 tonight easily. Those writing him off have to remember this isn't an ITT that needs an aerodynamic position. They will not be on time trial bikes. This is uphill. It cancels everything aerodynamic out. Cancellara wouldn't come top 50 on this time trial.

1. Yes, but when we talk about a rider who can do both well, then it can be very important.
2. I'm a fan of Contador, but Leipheimer is much better in ITT. That's fact.

How exactly is Leipheimer a much better ITT'er?

Is there are specific reason why they aren't climbing to the top of the road? Didn't want to make it too hard?

Contadors the obvious favourite but I'm going to avoid picking him its too easy so I say menchov , my outside pick to podium would be pinotti.

Wrong. Fabian would beat most of the guys so bad in the first 5,5km he could walk up the mountain with his bike on his back and still make top50.

Will this ITT have an impact on the GC at all? I mean there are just 6km of "real" climbing? Although I also think AC might rip this, a non GC contender might be up there as well.

Also, will some of the guys use TT bars (or at least extensions) for the first flat ks???
