I would suggest so yes. but if he rides a good gc he will do top 5 easily. not just top ten. if he fails he could finish 40. who knows

It's beyond me how anyone could be 90% sure that a guy who's never appeared in a GT before can make top ten right away.

he has won the vuelta colombia. that's as close as it gets to a gt.

so you think Top 5 will be Rujano, Quintana, Uran, Henao and? Serpa or Sarmiento?

top 5 will be:

1 rujano
2 quintana
3/4 scarponi/henao
5 uran

without injuries etc

IMo it will be close to this, and there will be definitely few riders with bad luck and crashes, so that's why duel leader for some podiums ;)

1. Scarponi 2. Rujano/Cuengo 3.Basso/Szmyd 4.Gadret. 5.Henao/Uran

back in the doping days yes. in the 80s it was an indiciation and now colombian cycling is stronger and more allround then ever. besides it's also the way henao won it and against who that was impressive.

WT ranking:

31 URAN URAN Rigoberto COL19870126 SKY PROCYCLING (SKY) 63
94 HENAO MONTOYA Sergio Luis COL19871210 SKY PROCYCLING (SKY) 2

They are on 8th place in country ranking 2012 (cq). Ahead of GB and USA for example. Does anyone really care about WT ranking ?

Even assuming those times aren't coming back (let's not go there in this thread, but, you know...), the fact remains that no recent Vuelta a Colombia winners have shown much in GTs, except for Rujano*. The theory that it should be a good indication of GT potential in a cleaner peloton has merit, but remains untested.

*I don't count Botero and Cárdenas because they were both super old and past their peak years (and Cárdenas never did much in the GC except for a couple top 10's at the Vuelta).

botero should be counted as in 2006/2007 he was in his prime. cardenas won on a easy course and was very lucky. he wasn't the strongest. baez and montana were. both of whom I think could do very well in a gt. henao will show that too this year. we will see

How about Gadret and Pozzovivo? And isn´t it true that Scarponi seems to not have the form (Gloin22 just predicted him 1st).

I trust Ryo here and hope Henao will make Top-10 if uninjured.

About Quintana, he seems to have disappeared after Catalunya, he's not doing Romandia as well. Where is he?

Both Heano and Uran can top 20, but I would be surprised if either makes the top 6-

Scarponi, Cunego, Basso or Nibali, Kreuziger or Kiserlovski, Rujano, Pozzovivo, Gadret or Dupont, Rodrigues, Nieve will all be up there contesting for a top 10 and there are always one or two surprises.

Tbh Uran would had Top 10 at Tour if he didn't get sick. DEfintely he has the same class here as well for a good result and much better than top 20.

pozzovivo as always is in too early shape. and very limited in flat and downhils. gadret is pure climber. he lose minutes in itt and ttt and theer are also better climbers

If you care about performance in the biggest races, yes you should. Of course the WT ranking system is far from perfect, but CQranking includes races in South-America where none of the Europeans take part. Well d0h, of course the Colombians will score.

I agree that things are looking bright, with Uran, Henao, Quintana, Betancurt. But you never know if they can make that final step. Probably one or two of them might.
