Giro 2012 Field Discussion/Rumours

The vast majority of South American races are 2.2 at most, with many not even being at that level and being worth zilch as far as CQ is concerned, so even if you dominate the continent in a Merckx-like fashion you're not going to score many points.

Yes, I should have included the Italian and Spanish stage race circuit. There's a marked difference between their WT rating and their CQ rating. I.e. the points come mostly from smaller races.

pozzovivo as always is in too early shape. and very limited in flat and downhils. gadret is pure climber. he lose minutes in itt and ttt and theer are also better climbers

You cant really say that as he had Bronchitis last year, and the year before he crashed every stage (sometimes a few times in a stage, he even crashed in the prologue). So he is indeed almost always good in Trentino but he is not at his top there either normally (although this year he kinda was impressing).

I think Lancaster should go to the Giro for GE. He has led Goss out to 2 second places.

The other riders will not win stages unless if in breaks ( not certain chances ) or in the Prologue ( Bobridge/ Meyer ). Therefore they should send the extra man ( Lancaster ) for Goss' train.

yes he is at the top at trentino every year. the reason het gets sick all the time in the giro is because his peak is over.

NetApp line-up revealed:

Jan Barta
Bartosz Huzarski
Matthias Brändle
Cesare Benedetti
Andreas Dietziker
Reto Hollenstein
Daniel Schorn
Timon Seubert

last place for one of those three:

Jerome Baugnies
Markus Eichler
Andreas Schillinger

Who needs di Luca, Duarte or Garzelli anyway when you can have Reto Hollenstein instead?

We'll see. They will all certainly ride their ****ing hearts out, and that's more than can be said for some other teams.

the 9 riders of the Vacansoleil

Matteo Carrara
Mirko Selvaggi
Martijn Keizer
Stefan Denifl
Tomasz Marczynski
Sergey Lagutin
Romain Feillu
Thomas De Gendt
Gustav Larsson

Had Saxo let Larsson do Giro or Tour last year, he might stay and get some super-precious points for the desperate team:p

König seems to be having long-lasting problems with his back.
Wyss just got ill after he signed with NetApp and won't be able to race until June.
Janorschke broke his collarbone in February and had a bad crash at his first race back, Roubaix.

So all three of them are out of the game. From the rest they picked a quite decent team. I would have loved to see old man André Schulze in some sprint finishs; I'm sure he'd be able to do top 10. There aren't that many pro riders left with more than 30 UCI wins.

I can see them take at least one stage with Barta or Huzarski. They should not focus on useless place 15 in GC.
