i still think that netapp is not worthy aquarone's selection

a&s with betancourt, reda, taborre, garzelli, ginanni, even di luca would have been much more interesting to see.

Netapp has a good enough squad for one GT this year + the invitation will help German cycling. The problem is the WorldTour system and automatic invitations - there are at least two inferior lineups - Lotto and Saxo.

the invitation isn't helping german cycling at all. nobody in germany knows or cares for the team and the giro isn;t even broadcasted in germany. the only reason they were given a wildcard was because the sponsor paid acquarone a lot of money

If they get some results there at least would be news reports, newspaper columns etc - a small step towards reviving cycling there after the ****storm and witch hunt before. At least in east Germany ppl still care for cycling.

it's broadcasted live by Eurosport Germany, like they do with every race the have on their international schedule (except Tour de Suisse and Tour de Romandie)

but besides that, yeah, that's more or less correct. Nobody know's about Netapp nor any of their riders. Even Greipel or Tony Martin are barely known around here.

I think Lancaster should go to the Giro for GE. He has led Goss out to 2 second places.

The other riders will not win stages unless if in breaks ( not certain chances ) or in the Prologue ( Bobridge/ Meyer ). Therefore they should send the extra man ( Lancaster ) for Goss' train.

You have your wish, Lancaster is indeed going and as Hatcher mentioned Vaitkus is the 9th member. Not sure we will see too much of GE in the final 8 stages, except for a flat stage 18 and the final time trial, stage 21 but they should certainly be prominent in week 1 and a fair part of week 2. The GE train has looked much stronger in Turkey with Lancaster on board to cover the loss of Julian Dean. Lancaster like Mark Renshaw seems to revel in the final lead out role and it has showed so far.

Hopefully Week 1 will be big for them with the opening time trial and team time trial on stage 4. Tactics for the race are pretty straight forward as Matt White states "GreenEdge will turn to Brett Lancaster, Tomas Vaitkus and Jens Keukeleire, who is making his Grand Tour debut, to play key roles in Goss's sprint lead-out train.

"Brett and Matt are riding together for the first time at the Tour of Turkey," said White. "We've had a lot of different things happen with our sprint train already this season. Julian Dean was our main lead-out man for Goss, but he hasn't raced much after a broken shoulder in December, and a broken leg in March has taken him out of racing.

Also making the GreenEdge roster for the Giro are Svein Tuft, Jack Bobridge, Fumiyuki Beppu, Christian Meier and Daryl Impey. White expects Tuft and Bobridge to play key roles in the team time trial in addition to keeping Goss out of trouble in the peloton. Beppu, who's ridden the spring Classics for GreenEdge, will help to keep Goss protected and will also have the opportunity to go on the attack for stage wins. Impey, who's the second GreenEdge rider to make his Grand Tour debut, will also be given the chance to seek stage wins."

the 9 riders of the Vacansoleil

Matteo Carrara
Mirko Selvaggi
Martijn Keizer
Stefan Denifl
Tomasz Marczynski
Sergey Lagutin
Romain Feillu
Thomas De Gendt
Gustav Larsson
De Gendt could hopefully go well ( either stage/ GC wise ).

Larsson at the moment looks like the best ITTer here.

I am a bit sad Cam Meyer is not in the squad but he could go well at the TDF ITT wise. Bobridge i could easily envisage winning the prologue ( even if he is not favourite ).

On form you can look at Thomas's win at Romandie and say that Bobridge is going slightly faster than him,so he must be strongly considered. The Giro time trial is a bit longer but 8.7km should be fine for a strong time trialler like Bobridge. Training specifically for a 4km "sprint" (World Cup 4km and Olympics) must be an excellent preparation as showed by Thomas.

Unfortunately rain and wet roads didn't give us a true perspective on the Thomas ride as the later riders were slightly handicapped in Romandie but it is still a very good form guide.

Funnily enough Bobridge's best TTs are in longer efforts.

Thomas/Boaro/Malori/Pinotti/Bennati/Phinney/Rasmussen/Larsson are probably all better chances. Although GreenEdge are performing miracles, so who would write him off ;)

The problem is that the best riders in that team are not even german, so no way the presence of netapp is going to increase the number of german viewers of the giro.
Clearly is all about the money that the sponsor paid to RCS in order to be invited.

Agree that in general NetApp is weak, but to be honest they were quite good in the Italian races.

Coppi and Bartali win Bartra, second Huzarski, TTT won, another stage victory.

Trentino good ride by Huzarski, very good on the Punta Valeno stage, unlucky crash on the last stage costed him a top 10 or maybe better GC place.

Both Bartra and Huzarski, are able to ride a good Giro, and win a stage or get a decent GC place (Huzarski). Not to forget that Netapp lost Konig due to injury, who was suppsed to be their best climber.

What is important, this will be their race of the season/life and they will give everything they have also they are preparing their form peak for the race. I am sure that we will have worse teams in the race (Lotto, Saxo)

Nibali to ride Tour of California and Criterium du Dauphiné as prep for the Tour de France, apparently confirmed. (l'Equipe, or it could be another twitter rumour)

Nibali going to the Tour is the wrong decision.

It would leave an archaic Liquigas team fighting a modern Lampre machine on home turf: Basso vs Scarponi/Cunego/Ulissi will not cut it.

Malori only goes well in 2nd rate events ( nowadays ).
Larsson needs a longer ITT in my view ( eve though on paper the best ).

He will also have Eros and maybe Macej ( hopefully ).
