False. What you see is just from 1900m up, so maybe half of it.
Anyway, Michael Rogers was doing altitude training with Sivstov last year on Stelvio, for Tour, and he posted some pics on his twitter on 20 June I think, and it was full of snow. So don't go too far with expectations for this stage beacuse there is a small chance to be disapointed.
Sestriere was full of snow too, by that time. It snowed heavily on the Alps about one week after the end of the Giro. The weather in May/June is a bit silly there , you can never know. Anyway they're gonna climb the southern side, which is always the first cleared.

What do you reckon would be the contingency plan? Mortirolo then Santa Cristina and finish at Aprica? Or just go up to Bormio 2000?
Imho the best contingency plan would be adding Trivigno before Mortirolo and then finishing directly in Bormio. In this case you'd get the classic Mortirolo/false flat finish, though it's a a bit easier than Aprica.

the giro is trying harder to get nibali a giro route he can win on. Don't forget that samu is riding the giro, he will like this as well.

Im not so sure about that. He said hes going to go for a Giro gc sooner rather than later, and it would make sense with him wanting to be on peak for Olympics (even though it isnt his course),

But recently he said he might do the Giro 2013 instead. Also he saw this year just how strong he was in the TDF, and he hopes that maybe next year the organisers let him have a shot at the gc not just kom and stages.

New rumour: The first MTF of the Giro won't be at Campitello Matese, but it'll be at Lago Laceno, in Campania, on stage 8. There's a strong rumour of a finish in Assisi. The stage to Abetone is somehow less likely but it's still rumoured. I'll soon update the route in the firts post...

Lago Laceno? Will they actually finish on the climb this time around unlike 1998?

This is a good question. I don't know. In an italian forum they say the finish will be the very same of 1998.

Nice to see the Giau just before the end. Stuff always happens on it :)

This reminds me of a little known story

Back in the 2008 Giro, the queen stage had 5 major climbs. The 3rd was the Giau. All hell broke loose on the Giau, and Contador got dropped by about 10 riders and was going to lose the Giro right there......but the other guys got overconfident and slowed down and let him get back on, as they were convinced they could drop him again on the final climb of the day.

None of this was on any TV other than RAI. Most tv commentators had no idea this had happened when they started transmitting on the 4th climb of the day with everyone in the same group. Only people watching RAI saw this.

On the last climb of the day Contador was feeling much better and did fine. Contador could've lost 10 minutes that day, and the Giro.
