I know he wants to do the Tour, but at the Giro presentation he, adressing stage 20, said that, and I quote, "I'll just have to see if I can manage to stay close on general classification by then", strongly indicating that he will be riding the Giro.

Thanks. I thought that Henao and Uran would go but wasn't sure.

I haven't read the last interview with Rodriguez so that changes things. In the last one I read, he more than strongly indicated that he would ride the Giro.

Key paragraph of Acquarone's latest CN "blog" entry:

Some people were very clear: 75% of the tifosi said that the 2012 Giro had been too tactical and so too controlled. 85% asked us to look after the riders more, especially at the finish of the sprint stages. People were divided about the mountain stages: 45% wanted to see big mountain stages with four or five major climbs, while 55% said we should focus on more spectacular and shorter mountain stages that have just one or two climbs in the finale. There was also a contrast in opinions on racing on the Strade Bianche dirt road roads. 25% of people want them in every edition of the race, 35% never want them and 40% want them but only every so often.

When we designed the 2013 Giro d'Italia route, we considered the fans' opinions very closely. We also listened to the UCI, the teams and of course, the riders.

That's probably the initial plan but we don't know that for sure until Wiggins confirms his plans for 2013. It's a bit like this year when Uran was initially scheduled to ride the Tour as a domestique for Wiggo but changed places with Porte after Richie's impressive early season form. Things change.

Acquarone is right. Surely he could hit Crostis-Zoncolan and a chunk of killing dolomites stages more, but if we would have seen something like this year again, that had become a harsh strike for this magical race. With this course, if anything we'll be able to say 'ah. the climbs were not steep enough' :)

Tour is cursed for Samu. Injury 2010, eliminated from contention by organizers before it even began in 2011, crash out 2012. Every year he keeps saying that hell do the giro next year after he gets a legitamate shot at the Tour and every year the shot is denied him. Hes got tired and finally is saying - **** this, giro it willl be.

After Lombardia he said Euskaltel generally prefers him to ride the Tour.
But of course this might change next year.

For some reason Samu says he still feels indebted to Euskaltel. Not a clue why, but that's why he always prolongs his contract and I guess also goes where Euskaltel wants him, to an extent.

Why wouldn't he feel indebted to the team/organization that he's been with his entire career?

I have no idea. In my opinion, it is the other way around, but not according to Sanchez.

Ill be the first to complain that Euskaltel have been too weak for Samu in recent years, but i think he is grateful for the fact that they took him on all those years ago in the first place.

Rodriguez will do the Tour I think even though he will have Froome and Contador to contend with and probably Andy and Evans. Menchov will be better suited to the Giro. Prudhomme has been hinting for a long time that the 2013 Tour will be a mountainous one which probably also means less TT kms. Better race for Rodriguez and Schleck. Not so good for Evans.

Menchov??? lol i didnt think id see his name ever come up again, other than in the - "retiring" thread

Alas Dennis does not seem to have it anymore but I was still glad he won a good stage in the Vuelta. Basso is probably in the same category even though he is much more consistent and this year will also see off Cadel's career as well I think. Unless they want to hang around for a few more years and become domestiques for others like Kloeden. But can't see it happening with these guys. Maybe Dennis will end up working for Katusha in a different role. Horner and Leipheimer will probably still be riding in 2015 with Jens Voight. Seriously I think Jens is finishing next year as well. With O'Grady and McEwen gone and Freire and Moncoutie as well as Hincapie. Lots of popular and well known faces are disappearing from the peloton.

Kloden? What has he done this year to show that others should do domestique work for him. At 37 he's not getting any better. If he ever found himself on the same team as Evans or Basso it would be him doing the domestique work for them.

On Gazzetta.it there's an interview with Acquarone (Italian only) where he gets asked about a few things. The only interesting thing he says is that they're still thinking about the whole time bonuses issue. He reckons they'll decide at the end of October.

The sentence was intended to be parsed differently. You've read it as "doing domestique work" - for - "others like Klöden", it seems it was intended as "doing domestique work for others" - "like Klöden" - (has).

Oh, that make more sense, my mistake .
