True. There was a rumor that it was going to be a road stage, though. Someone Italian said so, so it must be true. ;)

It's not official yet but the major of Brescia that is paying for the stage would like to have a road finish with a circuit. Although nothing is clear yet because it seems that RCS prefer to finish with an ITT that may guarantee an uncertain Giro till the last day. Additionaly RCS was planning on finishing in Milan, so even though the Brescia's Major is offering a lot of money even the final city is not 100% sure.

TY. It would be a bold move to not finish in Milan, Rome, Turin or Florence, but then again maybe RCS is dead-set on a prestigious finale? And, um, maybe Milan wants to show off its growing skyline? I'd rather have a GC relevant stage someplace else, though. Brescia would be an excellent choice.

Fingers crossed, I suppose.

This site mentions as "official" a TTT in Ischia as stage 2.
That would rule out the Monte Faito stage :(

Uhhhhhh. :(

I bet they'll copy the 2013 TDF then and start with a flat sprinters' stage. Your rumored stage list doesn't have a lot of flat stages, btw, which seems odd, given RCS' lust for Cav. I was expecting 6-7 flat stages, actually.

It's because stages 3,4,5 are in a region where one cannot expect to have a flat stage. If they want, they can make it hilly but ending with a likely bunch sprint anyway.

New article on Tuttosport:
We have the ITT then.
Gabicce Mare - Saltara, around 52 kms, potentially having a few little climbs.
The TTT in Ischia is confirmed.
Brescia seems to have won the finish. It'll be a road stage. Let's see what happens.

Interesting that the WC circuit is in this Giro, might lure some classic specialists after all. Giro is seriously lacking in that department compared to the Tour and Vuelta.

This is getting out of hand.
According to a newspaper of Brescia the final week will be:
Caravaggio - Punta Veleno
Mori - La Polsa MTT
Ponte Di Legno - Val Martello
? - Tre Cime Di Lavaredo (or somewhere in the Dolomites)
Vicenza - Brescia.

May is not really a great calendar spot for classic specialist...

What's stopping them from doing the first 2 weeks and then drop out?

Paolo Bettini proved it was possible to be successful in April and May anyway.

hahahha...i love when the routes don't leak...we still have no big picture

tre cime and punta veleno....oh wiggo we have a problem here

with a 52 km TT + Supersky team in TTT he will get a huge advantage though.

However Acquarone previously declared that this would have been an easier route, but if roumurs are right we will have:
-Malghe Montasio MF
-Jaffreu MF
-Gaibier MF
-Punta Veleno MF
-Val Martello MF( with Gavia and Stelvio before)
-Tre Cime MF
+ a MTT
It seems a little too much to me for a soft giro. Additionaly Vicenza has signed an agreement for a stage finish, so in my opinion they will arrive in Vicenza on the last Wednesday, with no Punta Veleno.

MTF + MTT + MTF + MTF

Now that's what I call a balanced last week.

Joaquím Rodríguez?

Anyways, they did this in 2008 too (stage 18: Mendrisio (2009 Worlds circuit) - Varese (2008 Worlds circuit)).

Jens Voigt won the stage solo ahead of the trio of Giovanni Visconti, Gabriele Bosisio and Rinaldo Nocentini. The next group on the road included Daniele Bennati and Paolo Bettini as well as Joaquím Rodríguez.

The péloton more or less rolled in together, and I don't know how many of the riders still in the Giro at that point I'd label as Classics specialists? I mean, Visconti and Nocentini didn't get picked that year, Bettini the only one of the major names to start the Worlds.

yes jafferau and galibier, yes vajont stage
very difficult 3 cime
itt in saltara, quite hard ,no mountain itt
that is just a guess...

yea, you are right, probably.
it will be in the last week, mori -polsa

so there will be TTT in naples, ITT in saltara, about 50km, on hilly road, quite hard and MTF mori-polsa.

Last saturday stage will finish at the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, it's now official: it was announced today on Giro FB page.
