Indeed, would give him too many race days which we are told is bad. I think Sky are more likely to send one or both of the Colombians, and Porte.

What would the Gavia MTF be, just Tonale?
If that's supposed to be the queen stage, certainly not. I'd go for Mortirolo.

From that side the easiest way to Mortirolo is through Stelvio. Wonder if RCS have balls to put Stelvio, Mortirolo and Gavia into one stage. It would be a bit of an overkill though.
Second option of including Mortirolo would be going through Austria with Ofenpass and Forcola di Livigno/Passo del Foscagno

Indeed. Especially if they come from Val Senales.
Or they could do Palade, Tonale, Aprica, Trivigno, Mortirolo and the Gavia.
Or Palade, Tonale, Gavia, Mortirolo, Gavia.
:D
Maybe the Stelvio Mortirolo Gavia is the easier option :p

Maybe I would even prefer Umbrailpass over Stelvio, since Stelvio was used this year.

Or, if they really want to raise the bar, Stelvio-Mortirolo-Gavia-Stelvio MTF.

Mother of god

Sounds like a splendid idea with >6,000 vertical meters. Add a little rain and we would have perfection :D

They did the 'other' side of Stelvio this year. Me wants the 48 hairpins' side, please :D

Stelvio-Mortirolo-Gavia-Stelvio would mean climbing the same side of the climb they descended earlier. Which means fans absolutely filling the descent... I can just see utter carnage developing there.

If you're going to go Stelvio-Mortirolo-Gavia and have an MTF I'd actually rather they did it at Bormio 2000, because it being fairly simple may induce more attacking earlier. Quite a lot of the most exciting Giro stages of the last decade have come with a really difficult penultimate climb and an easy last one - Castelfidardo 2003, Sestrières 2005, Aprica 2010 - or a difficult but shorter last one - Val di Fassa 2011, Tre Cime 2007.

we all know that, and I do reckon a MTF to Bormio 2000 would be by far the best option, but the rumours say it'll be a MTF on the Gavia itself...
EDIT: Rumours are often wrong luckily.

Yesterday a newspaper said that the stage to Vajont will be on May 15th, and it'll start from Tarvisio. It says then that the next stage will start from Longarone and head to the Treviso zone. May 15th means stage 11, so I have to redesign all the second week of the route. Plus, if they really start from Tarvisio (or Cave Del Predil, which is there), the finish of Bad Kleinkirchheim is to be dropped.
I'll put the route in the first post too from now on.

DISCLAIMER: It's still too early to trust any of these stages. Please do not rely too much on them.

The more stars a stage has, the more likely it is.

new rumour. The stage to Firenze will be stage on May 12th, and then there will be a rest day and transfer to Friuli. The route will be approaching Firenze from south. This fits with another recent rumour about the rest day in Friuli so I tend to trust this. That means the stage to Montecopiolo is to be dropped, sadly.
As for now, the second week seems quite reliable. The peloton will ride three times on the next WC circuit.
The same article mentions a stage in Calabria and Molise too, so I think the first MTF could be to Campitello Matese (it's in Molise and it was hugely rumoured for last year). Plus, it says the stage to Firenze will be the only one in central Italy, and mentions a possible MTF to the Tre Cime (up to date, it's not very reliable)

Galibier to be renamed Cima Schleck or Col d'Andy whatever you like. Andy for the Giro - Tour double! :)

the giro will have 2 itt's next year? thank god

would be cool to see if wiggins could manage against nibali with giro mountains in the mix and a proper amount of mountain stages.

Are there any rumors Wiggins will ride the Giro?

I don't think he can afford that, he obviously needs to ride the tour and combining it with the giro is just impossible especially if you consider the field.

I still think he'll be the leader in the tour, might chance during the tour but he needs to start as one just for GB.

Btw i'm also happy with 2 TT. Not too long, around 30 km orso, one flat and the other one with hills. That's how I like it.

Wow, yet another "Oh but wiggins will want to lead the tour, no way froome gets leadership bla bla bla"

Seriously none of you guys ever read any other posts on these forum. This keeps being brought up time and again, new poster every day.

Hes no idiot he knows he cant beat Contador or Schleck. His aim was to win the Tour, he achieved that.

Besides, what did you think the deal was? froome is his personal ***** during the 2012 tour for nothing? No as was said, this year froome works his *** of for wiggins and his time will come later (and that doesnot mean 3 or 4 years dow the line when they are both worse riders, but NOW, when they are at their peak).

And yes he has said at least twice that he thinks he might do the giro and then help froome in the tour.

Signed, eargerly awaiting yet another poster to post the exact same thing tomorrow.

Depends on what climbs the organizers include. It looks like RCS decided to reject from heavy Dolomities course for a little while. Apparently, no Zonc and Mortirolo too. And yet that's the Giro and they must hit anything with at least 9% av., but we shouldn't forget which lesson of agilità Wiggins gave everyone on Planche des Belles Filles. :)

what fun do you see in two ITT?

Gavia and Galibier look promising. And 2 ITT's is great. But they will still need a stage somewhere that's at least a little GC related in the first 9 days.

I am surprised to read of the suggestion that Wiggins could ride the Giro. I never believed he would consider it. As for other riders I think that Evans should ride the Giro given that he can't win the Tour no more, and that Van Garderen will be the likely team leader there for BMC next year.

Can't wait for the parcours to be released! Anyone know of a release date?

Giro presentation usually takes place the day after lombardia which this year has been moved forward so.im guessing early October.

As for cadel, tjvg said that bmc think Evans has another tdf victory in him.

As for wiggins i would be surprised to see him.go.for.the giro but he has said that he might.

The Giro presentation will be the 30th of September, the day after Lombardia.
Yes, there should be 2 ITTs... The Vicenza one could be hilly. I do hope they put two ITTs because the amount of ITT in the Giro is been ridicoulus in the last years.
If they do the stage to Campitello Matese you have your gc-related stage. It's quite hard.
Anyway the first week is deeply unknown, they should head to Calabria and then go upward towards the Adriatic coast. The third week is quite foggy too.
Definitely no Zoncolan (it's rumoured for 2014 as a double pass [lol]) this year and probly no Mortirolo either. Those aren't actually the only two hard Italian climbs though ;)
