Last saturday stage will finish at the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, it's now official: it was announced today on Giro FB page.

Great! One of the stages I was hoping for. Hoping for a 200km+ stage with several mountains, example Duran, Forcella Staulanza, Giau and Tre Croci, before they finish at Tre Cime. That would be an epic stage.

Fedaia from Canazai is unfortunately much easier than from Caprile. But the most important thing is that they climb Giau before Tre Cime. Would anyway be a great stage.

so they say.
I'm not particularly into climbing Fedaia from Canazei.... you should use Pordoi there.
And what about the terrain before Canazei? How will they go there?

fedaia from canazei is quite easy, you can stay in the group well without any problem.
i did it, it is about 6%, no way to make selection there.
but it is still a climb going over 2000m and on the penultimate day of the giro somebody will be tired and not very brilliant.
but the enchainment giau-tre croci is very demanding (especially the giau).
if somebody puts the hammer down...

then as it happened this year with scarponi, , after the giau, you can close small gaps going down from pocol to cortina, but then on tre croci and on tre cime the truth will be told.
it should be a great stage

I agree with profff. Fedaia from that side is not optimal, but so early in the stage, it is the kilometers and altitude gain going into the legs that counts. The end of the stage will be great, so I am happy.

There are a number of very good climbs in the Brescia area, but how many are close to the city? They always talk about the last day being decisive, but if the last week is as hard as it looks from Eshnar's post, and it finishes in Brescia, I don't buy it.

My guess would be passing through the lago di Carezza, beutiful scenary, and another climb in the legs of the rider

If the TT should be about 35km, this would be the best Giro route since 06!

I do like this course. Great last week. A rest day before the last mountain stages also makes sure that the riders are less tired before the last 3 mountain stages.

The first week seems more uncertain. Are these hilly stages tough enough to make a selection and create some aggressive riding among the top riders?

There's room for everything in the first week. For example, the last time they arrived in Terme Luigiane was 2003 and the winner was Garzelli ;)

The only problem I have with it is that at least one of those potential "hilly" early stages needs to be really "hilly".
Otherwise, we have to wait until stage 10 for the climbing selection to start, with over 70kms of TTing already undertaken.

Sure, this might make for some very attacking racing. It might also have a demoralizing effect on any unfortunate clockers.

true, but this would already be an enormous improvement from this year
And btw as I said the stage to Terme Luigiane is potentially demanding.

Eshnar's route has the MTT on the Thursday, yet Gazzetta suggested it was the Friday? Who's right?

I hope Eshnar... i want to use Friday as travelling day to Tre Cime!!!

No-one has commented that the rumour that first had Tre Cime, was also the one with Punta Veleno... good lord... imagine if that proved to be true (FYI i dont beileve it is)... what a crazy Sunday to Sunday!!!
