So I guess Val Martello won't be there. Can't say I'm disappointed, but I was hoping for a long range attacking stage and certainly Montecampione isn't. The only hope now would be the final Friday, but with the Zonc the day after it would be hopeless anyway :(
There's only the Carpegna for attacks then, which is too early in the race so I doubt anyone will need to try.

If the rumors that the stage to Montecampione will start from Valdengo it's true then it means there won't be any other climbs before the last one: it's 200km just to get to the base of the climb.

A nice approach would have been Vivione+Presolana, but unfortunately that would require a much closer start.

No matter what climbs you put before Montecampione, no one would attack before the last climb. You can't do 20 km at 7.5% alone and manage to stay away from the peloton.

We're at 2006 levels :D:eek:

Ponte Di Legno - Val Martello looks confirmed at stage 16.

Stage 19 will be a MTT. But there are two different sources claiming two different things:
- Plan De Corones
- Monte Grappa

For transfers reasons I tend to trust the latter. That would be Bassano - Monte Grappa, 30-32 km (the climb would be raced through the side used as descending in 2010)

Lols, what happened to "making it a soft route the attract the Tour contenders" ?

Did they realise already that you don't do the Giro period if you want to win the Tour?

Would be good if the Grappa ITT had 15km of flat to start with, still better than Kronplatz though /tonyridermode.

It would be much better if they raced up grappa and finished on the descent rather than an itt. I get tt up corones as its difficult to do road stage there but tts up mountains are for me inferior to stages on the mountains.

I hope so.
I stated multiple times though, Zomegnan wasn't "sacked" because of the hardness of his routes. Proof is that his right arm, Vegni, is now in charge.
I'm all for difficult routes but imho a MTT like that, on stage 19, is an overkill.

Not to mention that a guy like Porte will win it by 4 minutes.

edit: the Grappa stage will have 5 km or so of flat before the climb. From Bassano to Romano d'Ezzelino. That's why I mentioned 30-32 km

oh, I missed that Tuttosport's article mentions that stage 1 might be a TTT instead of a prologue  and that it's still not sure whether RCS will manage to get the UCI permission for the early rest day or not

That third week is crazy

Being Dutch I hope Kruijswijk comes back with his 2011 third week mode.

Giro definitely my favourite race of the year for a few years now though. As long as all these MTF's arn't Vuelta-style, but proper mountain stages, it's not looking to disappoint this year either!

Is there any chance of descending off Val Martello, Rifugio Panarotta or Montecampione to end the stages, or do the rumours specifically state MTF?

He would never put such a MTT... the gaps would be too big for him.

Sure he would. He doesn't want gaps to be big on the flat sections. Could give a **** about the climbs though.

Yeh, the climb in the sole ITT is progressively getting bigger. Another couple of years and it will be Navacerrada/Bola.

no he wouldn't, unless it's on stage 20. He doesn't want gaps at all. uphill or flat doesn't matter.

It seems that the time trial of the Giro d'Italia will be right up Monte Grappa. A beautiful climb and could be more decisive than Zoncolan and all other mountain stages
it would probably be the most decisive
