Re: Giro 2017, stage 19: S.Candido/Innichen - Piancavallo 19

A very tired peloton and a stage tomorrow with more scope for GC gaps means good chance for the breakaway.

On the basis that Hirt and Landa might pay for their efforts today, I think Pierre Rolland can get another. Hugh Carthy and Sebastian Henao decent outsiders.

Giddy up Quintana and Nibali- times a running out and this is a good stage for both of them, lots of up, lots of down, lots of opportunities.

hoping for LL Sanches some how... i think he deserves.. Landa could take saturday's and i'll be happy..
Dumoulin looks really strong so far. Hard to see him loosing time or panicking with a gap. Close race within top 6 might make it fun at the end....

What would it take for Pozzovivo to win a stage?

He has a nice punchy acceleration but a weak sprint. And he can't use that punch on easy gradients. He isn't like Valverde or Purito who can do well in a flat sprint.

They can make Dumoulin lose here by going full *** on the Sella Chianzutan and then create all sorts of breakaways on the flat afterwards. It's incredibly unlikely tho

This is actually why I believe having Pinot and Zakarin in striking distance to the Podium is very helpfull for Dumoulin considering the Profiles. They'd have to somehow manage to distance him without distancing Pinot or Zakarin, or even Pozzovivo. Well, no way on earth. Of course if there's a crash, or illnes or whatever it's a different story but you can't plan for something like that.

True, but on the other hand, Dumo can't completely ignore Pinot or Zaka if they attack which they'll likely have to do if they want a podium place and that obviously matters more to them than to Nibs and Nairo. Could result in an interesting game of chicken.

He must not ignore them of course. But i don't agree with the part of Zaka and Pinot having to attack. They know that Nairo and Nibs have to attack more than them which increases the risks of them blowing up in finales. So they have the luxury to ride tempo, sprint at the end for bonus seconds and give the final podium blow with their ITT skills in Milano.

Not seeing Nibali not winning time on Pinot and Zakarin in sunday's ITT.

It depends on their form and performance at that specific day, but with those kinds of wide and straight roads I don't see Nibs gaining time on those two.

He'd need the GC riders to catch the break and then everyone to watch each other if he attacks with around 3-4km to go and drops Pinot and Zakarin. If he drags those two with him he ain't winning.

I think Pinot and Zak have as good a TT pedigree as Nibali

If we judge about pedigree Zakarin is the TT specialist so he should normally demolish them in the last TT.He was terrible in the first one but I expect him to deliver now.

Just tuned in, or not as the case with British Euro sport. WTF:(. Anyone out there with a good link, don't care if it's in French, Italian, German, Klingon, I want to see some racing!!:)

Cancel the above just noticed the time!! In my defense it's ridicuslously hot here (aye Scotland!!). and I've just returned from our mind dumbing weekly shop, where time rather stops!!

If Kelderman was here I was sure he had it. Now still anything can happen.

Ten Dam is weaker then I thought. Tomorrow especially is worrying. Today if he has the same legs as yesterday should be fine.

Anyway no point watching this, it's just a parade, Giro is over, there will be no significant gaps and Tom Big Mouth has already Rosa in the bag. :D
Surely he's not that desperate for a proper climbing domestique that he's resorting to kidnapping?
:D :D

Sky should just send somebody else in the break, and Landa should then give it a go if the peloton fights for the win.

Yesterday was one of those situations where the break and the main contenders were pretty equally tired regardless of previous action. Even Quintana barely put time into Landa and TJVG, but given that Pinot and Pozzo came so close, I'm wondering how hard Quintana actually tried. He may have been hesitant to go all out.

I think Movistar will put a guy or two in the breakaway and try to time it so that Quintana catches them on the flat part of the climb. Quintana will drop Dumoulin with his initial attack. Nibali will try to follow and may or may not break doing so (prolly will), much of the rest will sit on the Dumoulin train for as long as possible.

That's if we don't get crazy action before Piancavallo.
