Overall not a 2 horse race anymore then.

Yates just about a par gap to Tom, Froome in the mix with a big TT as well.
The big unknown know is just what Froome is capable of in the final week. Based on today, I could see him winning the TT and gaining big time in the mountains, unless Yates can somehow hold his form right to the end.

This looks a Nibali 2016 type recovery.
A better recovery than nibali imo. Nibali was still (apart from the MTT) within the top 5 climbers. Froome was like 15th best and is now the best
True. Of course, I'm sure he will claim he had this form all along and was just hampered by crashes.

But, whatever, Froome trying everything to gain 3 minutes in this last week is going to make for a more entertaining race.

Congrats Froome. Although the time gaps weren't very big I think this was a very important stage for the gc. Yates
Imo now clearly looks like the number one favorite while Froome all of a sudden brought himself back into the conversation for the win. He is still a long way down but I expect a very good ITT from him and there is still a lot of climbing to do

What happens if Dumo wins this Giro by less than 4 seconds over Yates and then Froome's results end up getting scrapped. Does Yates get the extra 4s for winning this stage on Zonc and take the Giro title retrospectively?

Giro got assurances from UCI his results wont be scrapped

He was able to take a risk and go early given his situation with nothing to lose - got a 15 second gap, Yates closed to 6 seconds but couldn't finish the job - not sure you can get conclude he's the best (without basing it on history rather than this race).

Certainly adds an extra angle to the 2 horse race, chance to be c. 90seconds off the lead with 4 summit finishes to come.

If that happens then Yates can blame Chaves. We've been through this.

Surely not. I don't know of one, but there must be some clause somewhere saying that bonus seconds on the line will remain whatever subsequently happens. Otherwise the whole race becomes a farce.

Dumo hopefully still has it, or if not him, it's Yates. Best TTist there and there's really only the Finestre/Jafferau stage to take a lot of time out of him.

Tomorrow, Cervinia and Prato Neveso suit him more and can't see him losing much if any time on them.

This would probably be pretty similar if you exclude Kruiswijk who had 5 minutes on Nibali when he crashed.
