Predictions:

- Esteban Chavez DNS
- 1-2 GC guys will lose minutes (Froome? Aru? Dennis?)
- Time gaps will be small among the rest
- Most of the GC guys and their teams will keep something in reserve. Expect fireworks in Stage 15
- Stage 14 will be where someone loses the Giro. Stage 15 will be where someone wins it (Yates?)
I like the way you think...it could be not much tomorrow for the top-4, but havoc on Sunday and heart-break for the rider or riders who haven't recovered. Stage 15 could be when things happen.
I hope so, but I also hope for a hard race tomorrow, a fast tempo already on Duron and we'll get decent gaps.

I hope so too. I would hate to waste a day-off that I planned since the route was made public :) . But I have a feeling that tomorrow, the selection will be done off the back. High tempo will expose those who are not 100%. I don't see much until about 3 km to go. The 5-10 guys need to do something though, if they want a shot at a podium finish. And I don't see the top-4 chasing hard an attack with 7-8 km to go and risk blowing up in the end. As much as we hate it, patience will be a virtue.

I cannot describe how much I hate that every 'expert' know so little about cycling that he has to point out how tough mountain stages often end in passive and boring racing. Especially when they are really tough. No, Montevergine is obviously a lot better!

Maybe I should stop getting angry, but I seriously get pissed off and turn the TV off the second I hear stuff like that.

Seriously, this is the point where no of you should answer to any posts written by the Chicken. If he was just a fanboy he wouldn't write his posts like this. He would write that he thinks Yates will win easily but he wouldn't insult other riders in every single comment he makes. This is purely about provoking and it won't get any better if you respond to the stuff he posts.
Gosh.. Andy was at the Bernal age that days...
Hoping for a great stage tomorrow....but it could finish 100's ways. One thing is (almost) sure, there will be gaps. Zonc is just too hard.

On l'Equipe TV, Guimard was one of them. I think that most "experts" have been burnt enough times that they err on the side of caution. It doesn't bother me. Relax dude :) . hrotha will blast me for writing this "platitude", but the riders make the race, anything can happen, and on Zoncolan you can't hide. I'm expecting a good show, did my prep for a jambalaya from scratch. It will be lunch time when the GC contenders hit (while I eat ;) ) Monte Zoncolan. The couch is ready, the cushions are comfy, weather is shiite so I may not be able to ride. Bummer. Nothing like sore legs to be engaged :) . I can't wait.

Majka and TJ finish together. Once upon a time they had grand tour careers. All the same I think Tejay on the podium is a decent result for the current version of TJVG.

Easier said than done. I'll be a wreck by the time this Giro is over. I have so much at stake. When I see that shooting in Texas today, it's nothing though. It puts things in prospective. it's only sports.

But man, this is the sport that I love most, maybe the start in Jerusalem will land Tibopino to the promised land. Top-5 baring crap is pretty much a given, a podium looks good, but my greedy side wants more. Vai Thibaut!

I just have a feeling that Dumo is going to perform superbly on the Zoncolan- will he win the stage? maybe not, maybe a breakaway is likely to take it, but TD clearly understands the HOW to ride the Zoncolan, and yes-despite being a very tall guy, he can well pull a Basso 2010......

just saying...

Agree. But I hope it doesn't happen. Because baring a blow back on Sunday (doubtful), he will open up the gap on Tuesday...game over.

So how much time will Froome lose to the best GC finisher here? I’ll start the over/under at 90 seconds.

I really hope Sky gives Poels his freedom. He unobtrusively might have been the strongest on Zoncolan in 2014 (apart from Nairo, probably) and is always great on Angliru. He can absolutely win this.

Miguel Angel Lopez my top pick but Poels a good outside prospect.

Premonition: Froome will be dragged by Wout Poels through the upper reaches of the Zoncolan, unable to attack, will blow up and lose 72 seconds. While being sheparded to the line by Poels, who will look over his shoulder nervously

72
My 96, your 72, and usually we fall flat on our faces. So win or 150? We don't know and it makes it one more reason to watch.

Anyone know where to find non-TIZ live streams tomorrow?
The best is to go on steephill and get the Israeli TV. Good quality, tough to understand :) . My Hebrew is limited, like shalom and shekel, basically like Froome :D .

Although now I read something Kelderman said which completely baffles me. He says Tom likes super steep climbs like the Zoncolan and actually hates long gradual climbs with non-steep percentages

https://www.ad.nl/giro/dat-steile-van-de-zoncolan-dat-vindt-tom-echt-mooi~ac54defa/

Liking something does not equal being good at it.
He might do well because he is able to do pretty steep stuff without getting out of his seat. A part of the extra energy he has to use because of his bigger weight could be offset by this advantage he has over riders who need to dance on the pedals to keep their pace up.

Unfortunately I totally agree.

I really like sex.

I don't know what to expect. i just re-watched the '10 Zonc on YouTube, Basso opening a big Gap on Cuggles between 2.2 and 1.6 km to go, going from a 30" advantage to a minute. The climbers need to stretch Dumo before that to hope for significant gains. I think it will be a great stage, I hope that yaco is right. For sure, it won't mark the end of Il Giro, but it's the first true test as fatigue is starting to accumulate.
Thing is though, Dumoulin won't go over his limit on the climb like Evans did. He'll just ride his own tempo, like Basso, and not try to follow anyone's wheel too much. I feel if the climb is ridden in robobasso style then it's Yates who will suffer.

Evans probably didn't go over his limit it's just that Basso was riding like a droid.

I don't think this stage will decide the overall but it could be the final nail in the coffin for a few. Chaves may not even finish the stage, Froome who knows what he will do ? All eyes will be on Dumoulin and what his time loss will be. Be interested to see how Dennis performs.
