Yeah, Anton in You really wonder why he went off the charts completely

not what you mean... but at the moment he is sick, suffering from kind of stomach issues since the Tour of the Alps. This is too bad really, would have been fun to see him giving it a go on the Zoncolan, on steep climbs he is still a rider to look out for

I've seen Anton as an incredible climber after an easy stage and a bad one after a hard stage. For me, he was very bad at recovery between stages.
In 2011 after his superb performance on Zoncolan he imploded on the next stage on Fedaia and lost over 17 minutes.

Edit: All the stars at the Royal Wedding but the Beckham's outclasses'em all :)))

Didn't he had gastroenteritis before Vuelta 2011 who screw'up his preparation?

Actually he fell of the charts the day after his victory on Zoncolan! Rode a decent mtt afterwards, but lost 30 minutes and any chance of a top 10 finish on the Finestre-Sestriere stage.

Re: Giro 2018 stage 14:S.Vito Tagliamento-Monte Zoncolan 186

If Froome is feeling good he might put 2:30+ into everyone. Given his pedigree I am hesitant to call his Giro over, but his performance so far has made that difficult.

Hopefully if it is clearly not working Elissonde will be able to try for the win. The Zoncolan would look quite nice on his plamares next to the Angliru. Has any other rider won on both?

The last time Froome has shown form capable of putting in 2+ minutes to anyone uphill is years ago
I'm pretty sure Froome has never even won a mtf by over one minute. Tbf, both in the 2013 and the 2015 tdf it was his own teammate who was the only one finishing within a minute, but still that shows that gaining 2 minutes on everyone is very unrealistic.
Ellisonde would probably only have a chance from the break and even then I'm not certain about his chances. His problem is that he was probably only put in the team because he was expected to have great shape in the first week while Froome's other top domestiques were expected to ride themselves into form before being in peak shape for the Alps. In other words, the Ellisonde we saw in the Tour of the Alps or the beginning of the giro might have been good enough to win here, but I fear his shape isn't quite there anymore.

Dumoulin said at the start that he likes this climb more than those grinders.
What he actually said was that he leeks steep and irregular climbs best, but this one is steep and regular. He did say indeed that he likes all steep climbs better than 5% things, even though the latter should suit him better.

Re: Giro 2018 stage 14:S.Vito Tagliamento-Monte Zoncolan 186

Froome's monstrous climbing days may be over, but disregarding his past two weeks I think Froome should be far and away one of the best climbers in the race. Of course I am sure this will change after today, but I am not sold on roughly half of the riders above Froome in the GC. We are almost guaranteed some serious re-ordering.

Disappointing break. And that went on the climb?

Indeed. I would have expected some stronger climbers to get amogst it. Ciccone, for example. There’s every chance we see a secondary, stronger break form on one of the climbs before Zoncolan.
