Dont know if anyone has mentioned it but Michelle lives 30km from here.

Known last year as the "Manuel Belletti effect". Stage looks perfect made for him anyway.

On the other hand Contador owns these Mende type finishes even more then he owns the mountains so, if he wants it, its bang bang thank you mam again.

It's not steep enough for a bang bang.

Mind you I thought the same about Etna.

Stage looks awesome, and I'm going to be travelling and miss it. At least I'll get to see the peloton whizz by in person on Thursday.

Are you going there to watch the Giro or a trip to Italy just happens to coincide?

Coincidence, although I am going for cycling reasons. I'm riding a sportive in Cesenatico on Sunday. Nothing heroic, I'm doing the 130km route and I only just recovered from a broken wrist so I am going to go verrrrrrry slowly.

Haha, you can get fined for skipping press conference?

Stage winner, jersey wearers and others are required to be available for the press after a stage. Skipping it leads to the fines. I think only a medical and/or drug control allows a rider to get out of it (though only for a short time).

It is similar to Media Day before the American football Super Bowl. There, everyone is required to be available to the press for a certain number of hours -- even the guys nobody wants to talk to and they just sit there wasting their time. Missing that also results in fines.

You going to Zoncolan on Saturday then? That is one hell of an opportunity.

Hah, I wish. The Zoncolan is a five hour drive away from Riccione. There's a chance I might catch the train to Ravenna to watch Cav win, but I'll probably just stand on the road outside my hotel and shout 'VAI! VAI!' at the peloton as it shoots past.

I think we will see some nice tactical games tomorrow and Androni will send out all the Androids to hurt Saxobank.

Radio Shack has been putting someone in the break frequently - perhaps time for Tiago to get some time back?

Scarponi or Rodriguez

It will be a hectic pace at the start so breaks will be difficult to come by, a small one will form and they will never get more than 3-4 minutes. Lampre and a few other teams will bring it back, but it could be messy as there will be plenty of attacks in the last 35km.

Christophe Le Mevel
Le Mevel will definitely go for the win, but it is doubtful the peloton would let him into a break.

And this stage has winning break written all over it.

Contador will let go off the Maglia

A breakaway will make it to the finish & I hope this stage is taken by Serpa (and the Maglia too:D)

Time to get back for what? He will get killed on the big mountains anyway, doesn't matter how much time he gets back.

Look for Deignan to get into the break from RS.

90% of the peloton is going to get crushed in the mountains. Right now, there is a time difference between Contador and #37 Paolo Tiralongo of 8:48. By the end of this weekend, there will likely be the same difference between first and tenth, perhaps even fifth. I suspect that by the end of the Giro, there will be a sixty minute difference between first and twentieth. Except for maybe five riders, all others will be trying to limit their losses. Hence why I think a number of riders will want to "get time back."

As good as a guess as mine.

PURITO!

Seriously, though has anybody read anything about why he's sucking so hard this giro?

Look for him in Zoncolan and Dolomites... He is still building up...

We don't know where he's at with his peak yet - is it still building a bit, or was Sunday the top?

Contador will peak just in time for Zoncolan + Dolomites, He's like a clock... Riis made the perfect schedule for him for this Giro...

Hope that You suddenly start channeling Vino and forget about all those injuries! ;)

Back to the topic...
I feel like typping Carlos Ochoa... His form is very good, He has some freedom to attack and He wants to win for Jackson, who had to retire cuz an injury :(
But I want to see something epic! Visconti getting in the break and taking the stage and La Maglia Rosa! the celebration would be EPIC!!!
BTW Michele wants to win here! the stage suits him perfectly but maybe Contador has other plans for him...

So If we can agree on the fact that Machado will get slaughtered in the big mountains why should he 'get some time back'? It doesn't matter if he will finish 26th or 52nd place. If he gets into a break it will be for a stage win, not to get some time back.

Did anyone else catch this?

"Officials also lifted the three-kilometer rule from Wednesday’s finish, meaning that any crashes or mechanicals will result in the real time across the line. That will make for a very nervous finish among the GC favorites."
http://velonews.competitor.com/2011/05/news/giro-notes-cavendish-gets-his-win-with-conviction-contador-fined_173933

Considering the profile at the finish, this could cause some panic if something goes wrong. Not that I expect a large group to be rushing to the line together. Odd decision though, no?
