That's precisely the reason stop-start was good choice. Part of the peloton don't want explosive start for obvious reasons (not just today but in stage racing overall). Now someone can slip away in a start like this and make situations interesting.

I really hope there will be more attacks, when it goes up. Thats the most awful break for a purposed "queen" stage in a GT one could possibly imagine. With 15min before the Mortirolo, still no one stands the slightest chance to win this if the peloton goes for it. And if the peloton doesn't go for it until the last 2km, this would make for an awfully random winner.
