yeah exactly, this is probably what happened. Alaphilippe agreed to pay Maestri to keep pulling. there's no way Maestri was going to win the stage whether he pulled with him or not. again, fine with me, hopefully Maestri can put a kid through college with his ride today.
In so far as money was promised, I don't think he was bribed to pull. I find it far more likely for them to agree that if one of them won, the other would get paid. That would of course motivate Maestri to pull, but it wouldn't be a bribe (as I see it).
