Yeah kind of cringe that they told him to carry that on the podium, not great optics. Imagine if Martinez came on with a German flag for the Bora team.
The difference is the team is actually called/named "UAE" though, so I more so think the flag represents the team in this case and obviously those behind it at the same time.

Bora is named Bora... and not named "Germany", as far as I know. The same thing wouldnt be to have a German flag with him... but a Bora one.

Only 9 teams got a stage win.

And somehow Movistar and Cofidis snuck in

First time I have ever seen this.. Exactly at 13k to go, left side on the incoming group, going pretty fast, a guy swings out hard and attempts to get a hand up. He smashed his hand against the bottle, goes to the ground. What could have possibly been in that bottle? What substance is needed at 13k it what is surely to be a bunch sprint!!!? Mystery

Addy Engels got a 500 CHF penalty for towing Milan back to the field with the Jumbo car :D :D

For Milan himself it was a bit cheaper, and probably worth the couple of points he lost due to it.

Sheltering behind or taking advantage of the slipstream of a vehicle.
200 CHF fine, 15 penalty points in the points classification and 15 pts in the UCI rankings

That's ridiculous

But still gets the 130 points for getting 2nd??? What disincentive is that?

I wonder what Keegan Girdlestone thinks watching that sort of thing...

If only he cared that much about Roglič during the 2019 Giro…

Reporting to the few images we were shown (censored by the RAI) and witnesses, Milan was first towed by the Visma team car (allowed, because it is not his own team car). Milan made up most of the deficit by being sucked along by its own team car. This is prohibited by regulations and must always lead to disqualification. In this way he even saved more energy than the riders in the peloton. What would have happened if Merlier or Groves had done the same and won the stage? To ask the question is to answer the question. So, we are in Italy.

the rules don't allow "Sheltering behind or taking advantage of the slipstream of a vehicle", no matter what kind of it is, or who is driving it.

The penalty for this always is "CHF 200 fine, 20%** penalty in the points and mountains classifications and/or 20 second to 5 minute penalty per infringement and 15 points from UCI rankings" for the rider and "CHF 500 fine" for the driver, as it was applied yesterday:

Additionally it says in the rules, "in serious cases, in cases of repeated infringement or aggravating circumstances or if an infringement offers an advantage, the Commissaires’ Panel may eliminate or disqualify a rider and/or exclude a licence holder" - but this did not happen yesterday.

I don’t think I understand the full rules of what drivers are supposed to do in all circumstances. When a rider is drafting through a grouping of cars, is it the onus on the cars to get out of the way even if it is congested or bottlenecked? Not sure about this situation but sometimes it seems a bit impractical.
