Absolutely, he's not a good sprinter at all so he must've be in good form to finish right behind Gerrans. I wonder if Sky has renewed his contract yet, it would be a tragedy if he doesn't get a pro team for next year...

Apparently Sky offered him a new 1-year contract, and he said he's probably going to sign it.

Finishing 6th ahead of David De La Fuente, Sella and Pozzovivo is strong indeed.

What a great sprint by Battaglin, he seemed to have won really easily: he stopped pedallyng before the finish line, and he won by a bycicle on Rebellin.

We have also seen Pozzato back, setting the pace in last uphill km, and very few were able to hold on. That's a pity he won't ride in Parigi-Tours

Wow what an amazing win for Battaglin. I'm really looking forward to be following him the next years.

this has to be one of the most shocking wins by a youngster in the last years.
look at the top 10:
1) Enrico Battaglin (Colnago CSF/ Zalf Desiree Fior)
2) Davide Rebellin (Miche)
3) Daniel Moreno (Katusha)
4) Giovanni visconti (Farnese Vini)
5) Simon Gerrans (Team Sky)
6) Petter Nordhaug (Team Sky)
7) Stefan Schumacher (Miche)
8) David De La Fuente (Geox TMC)
9) Emanuele Sella (Androni Giocattoli CIPI)
10) Domenico Pozzovivo (Colnago CSF)

and it was also a very fast race.
can't wait to see battaglin in the big races

Very strong top 10. Wasn't too far off with my prediction (OK it was an obvious one), I'll have to remember Battaglin.

Maybe he will do Beghelli and giro del piomente to be on form for il lombardia.

maybe... but Giro dell'Emilia suits his abilities more than these two races combined

i would like to continue the list of "maybes" with maybe he's not ready, doing Vuelta took its toll and he's not going to start Lombardia at all :D
edit: and the last maybe: maybe he thinks he is strong enough to win Lombardia without a preparation

No point wasting your energy when Danny Boy is going to win anyway:D

i would say Danny Boy is very likely to be on the podium but for the win he has do deal with Rebellin and Purito who both are the great specialists of such finishes

It just strikes me as bizarre to send an understrength team to a reasonably important race when you have one of the favourites. The riders they are actually sending are pretty strong, but it's not as if the rest of their team is tied up elsewhere and can't be spared.

If they come close to the finish together, I agree. Martin has a very quick finish for a climber, but Purito is obviously the best in the world at short, sharp, uphill sprints.

Martin went at the bottom of the climb last year, and only Gesink was strong enough to hold on and go past him. My suspicion is that he'll try to do the same thing rather than matching kicks with Purito.

i think this season approved Phil Gilbert as the winner in this nomination. Purito is very strong on such terrain but Rebellin is no worse. I don't believe you can win San Luca from the bottom of the climb, whole this race is the Fleche Wallonne of the Autumn, it unfolds pretty similar so i think it will be an uphill sprint between the likes of Rebellin, Purito, Dan Martin, maybe Fuglsang, Mollema and Pozzovivo...

Don't know if Purito is motivated enough to ride for the win....
Could well be Moreno again for Katusha, who showed good form Wednesday

agreed for Moreno, but why on earth Purito can be unmotivated?
