Don't think today will be th e day for a long break away. the question is if a non GC threat will pop of the front in the closing stages and stay away. I expect rujano to have another go and I'm tempted to pick him bit I'm also wary he wont be allowed to get away do will think it will be a sprint between the GC favs and will go Bertie because he seems keen to assert dominance, my backup pick is kreuizger.

The break will depends on who makes up the break. The saying goes its the riders that make the race.

I expect Androni to send someone up the road, and I think it be wise for Astana to send one of its young guns up the road, because they are close enough in the GC to force Contador team to chase, because young riders are always "unknown quality", they may blow up in the 3rd week or pull off a Top 3 performance because they are to young to know better.

This serves 3 purposes for astana A), force Contador and other contenders to hard chase, B) It can give Roman a teammate up the road, or C) if The favorites decided not to put its full heart in the chase, it gives them a good possibility for a stage win and potential Pink Jersey wearer. YOu may not want to do alot of work, and that person may not be the teams GC hopefull, but wwhen an opportunity presents itself for either one of those possibilities, you take advantage of it.

If Menchov's form has improved and he can be with favorites through the 10 percent section, then I think he has a chance to win the stage after the descent and second half of the climb, but this is unknown. I will take Anton for the win, followed By Contador and then Kruezinger/Nibali/ Rujano together.

The Chicchi story on CN is quite entertaining. I wonder how much he'll miss the time cut by today :D

So who in particular may get sent up the road then?

Masciarelli, Kiserlovski, or maybe Tiralongo (but he is a little older)

or,

maybe Ochoa?

I expect either Seeldraeyers, De Greef, Bakelants or De Clercq in the break away (which will make it to the finish for sure if no real GC threat is in it) for potentially another Belgian win.

De Clercq's victory was epic, but I want more:)

How confident are you on Sella getting a stage win? Given how far down on GC he is, I don't think Contador will give two ****s if Sella attacks and gets a stage win.

I meant serpa deserves a stage win, not sella and sella is also overrated. he could win in a break but when guys like pozzo, kiserlovski, machado are in he won't win I;m sure.

I would say Tiralongo be most likely because The other teams know his capabilities, a good solid climber, but not an elite one. Kiserlovski I think be the least likely because he performed well last year in the Giro. Masciarelli getting in the right break I think would rely on who else is in the break.

Androni I would say Ochoa mostly liekly, out of the big 3 I would say they could get in a breakaway that leaves later in the stage, not necessarily the traditional early breakaway. I would hoenstly suspect Serpa being the mostly likely to get in a break eventhough he is the highest placed. Rujano has the previous 3rd place, and Sella is too much of a wildcard. Serpa has a track record that I think most teams are confident are his abilities.

I think Sella may attack from the peloton tonight but the break has a good chance tomorrow to get away. Sella will go in the break tomorrow. The favourites will probably take it easy on the Crostis descent. If the break has a few minutes advantage over the top of that, chances are someone if they are good enough can solo away.

Non-starters so far

Cavendish, Renshaw, Petacchi, Hondo, Belletti and Ventoso

Should be way more than that. Why would guys like Ferrari, Apollonio, Modolo, Hunter, Chicchi... kill themselves? No sprint stage left.

why would they retire?? they are going to help from now on and a guy like ferrari can climb quite well for a sprinter

Chicchi is reported on CN to be starting.

That takes a lot of balls by him, especially seeing as he will probably not make the time cut on at least one of this weekends stages

Appollonio wants to make it to Milano as far as I can tell from various posts and the video on the front page.

He's a reasonable climber so can probably get to Milan without being completely demolished. Would do him good to reach the finish as a neo pro, you can't replace finishing a Grand Tour in training
