it would be awesome, have this climb in the giro

I'm willing to bet that climb is not paved. Satellite view doesn't help, but it seems sterrato. Maybe not even that, some MTB trail.

Nijmegen is infinitely more awesome Apeldoorn or Arnhem. Most beautiful Dutch city there is, imo, and unlike Arhem or Apeldoorn, Nijmegen is a real student city, making sure the atmosphere will be great

Which part of Italy is Nijmegen located?

Same as Amsterdam, Herning, and Belfast.

I really do not like these outside of toured countries starts, or any mid race adventures either. There is plenty of Italy use it all.

While I agree that the starts in the Netherlands, Denmark and Ireland seem a bit silly - despite the fact that I absolutely loved it when they started in Denmark - I can't see anything wrong with starting in a neighbouring country, or popping in for a short visit mid race.

I believe these climbs are actually usable, if you get over the fact that they're MTB tracks.

Did I mention you can descend from Rifugio Altissimo and then head to Scanuppia within 20km of flat?

I think they should start in India in 2016 and throw in this 550K stage at altitude

Yes, nothing wrong with that, as long as they don't use something totally overused like the Galibier they can even go across the french border for one stage, something like the 2007 Briancon stage with Agnello and Izoard is alwaays a great addition.

A Giro start at Hannover or Wolfsburg, maybe with a stage or tt around Lago di Steinhude and a first hilly stage/mtf via Sankt Andreasberg-Torfhaus-Braunlage-Brocken would be nice, tough.

Many Italians live in that area.

The second week is shaping up already. They'll go Jesolo - Cividale - Sappada - Alpago/Cansiglio and then mountains. Asolo wants a stage, so maybe it'll be it. Strange to say, the real black hole of the route is the third week. I know nothing there at all.
Here comes my first draft. It's still too basic to put it in the OP though.

1 Nijmegen TTT?
2 ???
3 ???
rest
4 Liguria
5 Toscana?
6 Lazio?
7 Montevergine ITT
8 ??? - Vesuvio MTF
9 Go north
10 Adriatic
11 ??? - Jesolo
12 Jesolo? - Cividale
13 Cividale? - Sappada
14 Belluno? - Cansiglio ITT
15 ??? - Asolo??
rest

No idea about the third week, I've heard nothing about Plan de Corones.
Beppe Conti talked about a big mountain stage in Piemonte, but he talks a lot so you should take it with a grain of salt.

and a stage finish in Sappada (not to the Sorgenti del Piave as the road needs too much work, but into the town itself like in 1987).

The road to the Rifugio Sorgenti del Piave looks okay at Streetview, and the images are from 2015. It's not a superhard climb, but the scenery is very nice. One could use it like that (the final kilometers). ;)

Nothing wrong with what happened in this years race. I more meant if they suddenly decided to have 5 stages in the middle of the race in Austria.
A start in a neighboring country might be okay as long as it does not impact the structure of the race.

He also talked about the finish being in Rome, just after a MTT to Vesuvio on stage 20.
I find it hard to believe, but we'll see.

If the finish is in Rome I personally think it could be rather cool if the route for the final stage crossed into Vatican City for a bit.

Pretty damn sure the Nijmegen start rumour isn't correct, it was instantly denied by people within the Nijmegian(?) administration

Some more news:
- On Friday they'll officially announce the Grande Partenza
- There are rumours about a finish in Livigno after climbing Stelvio and Foscagno 2005 style. The following day the start will be in Livigno
- In Sestola the locals are very sure to host a stage (or some part of it).

It is extremely tough to get enthusiastic about these foreign GT starts. And this is from a Dubliner, who drove up to Belfast last May for the Giro start.
