This has to be one of the biggest drops of all time for a leader. Yates in pink to possibly missing the time cut. Has this ever happened before?
I can't think of a similar gap for a leader this late in the race. The closest that comes to mind is Evans finishing 17 minutes back on stage 17 of the 2002 Giro.

That last climb is going to carnage, like Joux Plane 2006 I'm guessing, that was already pretty impressive with everyone glued to the road, Kloden comes to mind, paced by Guerini and Mazzolini...Landis had lost a bit of time too, could still happen to Froome.
Yes. Still at this point Froome could win with 5mins, or just 1 minute.

Nah. Chase is done. They're dropping major time. No way to bring it back.

Basso lost massively in 2005 Giro.

edit: remembered it wrong, he was 2nd when he dropped.

This is a watershed for cycling, will the groupetto make the time cut?

This exactly... if Pozzovivo is already 7 min plus down, where are the sprinters? All going home or be saved so not only that top 10 go to the end... that phone call to the dawg from landis sure paid off

Funny to see how many posters in here raging over the non-participation of Lopez and Carapaz in the chase group, considering how many demanded non-cooperation when fx Froome was chasing Contador.

This is brilliant bike race, weather your sympathies lies with Froome or another rider.

Not so much when your sympathies lies with Yates and Pozzovivo...

Subjectively yes, objectively no...

It was a brilliant race up until yesterday, today it has turned into a complete farce.
This stage will be talked about for decades. Nothing in the race up until now would be. Like it or not, this is the kind of thing cycling needs to stay relevant.

Not sure at all what kind of reception that performance gets. Fanboys are over the moon, but a lot of people will be thorougly disgusted and angry (in the real world too, not only on this forum). It's just so far over the top.

Well they're currently gaining time.

42' according to Wikipedia, Yates could do worse today...

Wouldn't be surprised if Froome loses a minute on the final climb...

Depends if the others help Dumoulin - remember he has basically pulled that group by himself so has had almost as many km by himself as Froome. Can see a couple of them breaking off and leaving him behind.

Awesome performance by Tom. I did not expect that he will win the Giro again.

Just too bad Puff Daddy is taking the spotlight away from him and he will get the title retrospectively.

Still not sure why they allowed Puff Daddy to even start the Giro and I hope he won't be allowed to even start TdF.
