Why in theory do the Peleton have to follow FDJ? Why cant they let them TTT up to the break if they don't want to hard pedal?

I guess it's just risk / reward. You kind of need blanket agreement that you're going to let them go. If DQS let them roll off the front and Pozzovivo and Bilbao say 'i'm going to try jump and sneak on the back' then they have to bury themselves whereas now the pace is high but they have no responsibility or worry.

Chase over, the break's away!

Commentator saying it's 1-0 to Sagan?? It's more like Demare 3 - 0 but Sagan has a corner..

Démare will still have the jersey tonight and there are 3 possible sprints in the next 3 days, where he's a lot better than Sagan anyway. Don't know why they were so worried today.

Démare is definitely not coming to the finish on Thursday or Friday.

Maybe not Thursday but he can be at the finish on Friday. Look at the profiles of when he finished 1-2 at Wallonie, Luxembourg, Poitou-Charentes, National Championships...

For the life of me, I cannot understand why nobody went up the road, when FDJ gave up and the gap was below a minute.

I think people were pretty gassed and relieved to get a breather. It wasn't exactly an easy gap to close as evidenced by the failed chase.

"Alot"

While he's probably slightly stronger, one sprint was a matter of milimeters, the other sprint Sagan barely even contested and in the last one Démare would've been DQ'ed if he was Sagan.

So Ganna is clearly going to try grab another here but when will he try go? Does he back his climbing in the company of the others or does he make a bigger solo effort? Just after the 2nd intermediate looks a good option as you'd think he needs to make a difference before the really steep stuff but it's a long way out

The terrain is hard enough for a long solo attack IMO. If he has a gap nobody should really bring him back on the flats and I'm not sure who's better than him uphill here.
