They were both semi-finalists in the U20 World Cup (soccer) last year, so it could have happened, but Ukraine won and Ecuador lost, so they didn't meet in the final or 3rd place match.

I actually did check if they had ever met in the elite World Cup but no, they were never in the same group and Ecuador never advanced to the final 16 ;)

Lucky Narvaez snatched the victory. Could've waited for Padun if sportsmanship had any meaning for him. He was a sprint favourite anyway. This win doesn't count for me.

There is an element of fortune in the final shake out but there's nothing lucky about Narvarez being in the finale. It's been a horrid, hard day of cycling and he was extremely good across the duration of it. For all we know it's unlucky that he didn't get to ditch Padun legitimately himself
Extremely unlucky that he wheelsucked most of the climb and did no effort to drop Padun legitimately.

One thing is for sure, I'd hate to have this kind of weather in a stage race for multiple day.
In a one day race sure, it's not that big of a deal, you get to rest the next day and can recover for a few days.

He was only in the break because of the bad luck to Thomas and the stray bottle last week.

Sometimes the luck on a team evens itself out a little.

I understand them, no doubt the organizers are not doing their job keeping the surroundings safe. However, I would just leave the race.

I don't run panicky around each time a student of my school is declared positive (which has happened quite a few times already) and I am the same age as most of the average rider.
