I have been looking forward to this stage ever since the start.. I haven't been able to watch the Giro this much this year, and also have found it rather dull the times I have watching apart from a few occasions. This cant disappoint, right?
Me as well. For this stage I’m sorry if the weather (rain) is bad because it will mess with the cam feeds and also take away the scenery I’ve been looking forward to. But I’ve just decided to enjoy it no matter what (ok, not it’s a 40 rider coffee ride pace through). Love watching climbers in alpine playgrounds like this one. It’s the type of riding I always loved when I could still do i!

It wasn't superb in 2016 either, despite Kruijswijk riding off Nibali. 2008 didn't deliver anything as well.

Fedaia & Giau are roughly 8 kilometers of hard percentages. Pordoi isn't really hard with today's gearing.

Kill me, but I fear these Dolomites stages aren't as much effort for the big favorites anymore as they used to.
Design was great in 2016.

In 2012 it was hype as well but action super underwhelming. I would like that Duron/Staulanza/Giau combo back before Falzarego or Valparola one day. Can also replace Giau with Fedaia then Pordoi and you have 4 big climbs in very quick succession.

What's up with Cepeda? I understand that the Tour of the Alps is at a different level but he has been completely absent!!!!
My guess is that he peaked for Alps because they weren't invited to the Giro and a good showing/GC there is still quite a good result for Androni. Then when they had the Giro Invitation it was obviously too late to change that peak and they could only try to conserve as much shape as possible by holding him back till 3rd week and higher altitude.

Or he is just completely running out of legs and shape by now.

Yeah but i doubt they planned that as a mountain stage.
I'm talking about this ***:

With the same start and finish (and similar length), you could make an awesome stage instead.

Passo Gardena from Gardena-Valparola-Giau-Fedaia-Pordoi (or Sella) is IMO the best possible sequence of climbs in that area, unless you want to throw something crazy like Rifugio Talamini/Forcella Chiandolada from Vodo di Cadore in before Forcella Staulanza.
