What an ***hole he truly wasI like how we still refer to this as the Cipo route when his final GT stage win is 20 years ago to the day tomorrow. And people say sprinters aren't memorable...
I miss him every day

I think a lot of people in the peloton (and outside it for that matter) would be willing to serve Cipo's prison sentence if it meant they also equalled his palmares...The Cipo route leads to prison, doesn't it? I would avoid it, if I were Milan.
Hear me out: Quick-Step Deceuninck
Yeah plus one on this. Outside of a handful of guys like the aformentioned Tonelli and "Stephen Williams", who has to be a made up PCM name come to life, I can see pretty much anyone in this break winning this but all of them would need for very specific scenarios to play out in order to win. Like Pedersen would most likely have to be dragged back by teammates after the climb. And Kuss and Rubio can pretty much only win in a two-up sprint - they can't make it to through to the end solo and if even a Formolo or a Konrad makes it to the line with them they're pretty screwed.Nice composition - sprinters, rouleurs, climbers. That means there should be plenty of action later on.
Thought Sandro Toneli was a football player for Milan. Maybe it explains why they lost vs Inter. Midfielder is focusing on the Giro this year
Fwiw Konrad is much quicker in a sprint than Formolo, who somehow lost a two-up sprint to De Marchi in Tre Valli Varesine back in 2021. And we all saw how good De Marchi is in a sprint finish on Tuesday. There's a reason the guy has only four wins - they were all solos.Yeah plus one on this. Now instead the says blood from his nose for Milan
It's not charity, none of those guys are there for GC, the chase isn't strong, so it's basic game theory to do as little as possible. So many as*clowns in that breaks its a joke. Mads and Matthews must think how are those guys in the pros. A few riders will remember them I guess when they are away at another time.

Interview before the start, he said he doesn't feel in top shape. He sounded deflated to the point of bumming me out, lol.I'd say Van Wilder dodged the covid batch given how he's riding today

Sure. Maybe I should've written "even a Formolo or evidently a Konrad". But to be fair, Formolino made a hash out of that sprint against De Marchi, who anticipated him at the kite and methinks really goaded Davide into countering and then leading them out. He hasn't been that terrible in sprints for minor placings IIRC. So what I'm still positing that even Formolo would be a clear favorite against Rubio or Kuss in a flat sprint.Fwiw Konrad is much quicker in a sprint than Formolo, who somehow lost a two-up sprint to De Marchi in Tre Valli Varesine back in 2021. If you're not one of the better climbers in the break it's actually really nice to get ahead.Brilliant move to split the break at 90k to go with the peloton only 3 minutes back...
If you're not one of the better climbers in the break you're likely getting caught by the peloton if you have only 3 minutes at the bottom of the climb. If you're not one of the better climbers in the break it's actually really nice to get ahead.
