Technical Overview:

The classic transitional stage of the third week starts in the Valsugana Valley and ends on the Venetian coast, along a pan flat route. There is hope to avoid a mass sprint though: starting from the second intermediate sprint in Lido di Jesolo, at 31 km to go, the peloton will always ride along the coast, which means crosswinds could happen. This area can be very windy at times, so if the weather allows someone could try to take advantage of it. Otherwise this will go to whoever sprinter is still in the race, if any.

What to Expect:

Mass sprint, with just an outside chance of echelons.

Following my prediction on Almeida attacking to win, Cav to finally get his stage win.

I hope there are no crashes!!

I have found memories of holidays in Caorle as a little kid, for me that's probably the most interesting thing about this stage...

Who will chase the break? Astana, Movistar? This doesn't sound like a recipe for success. A strong break has a good chance.

I'd think DSM would like a sprint as well, but they have only Hvideberg left to chase. Maybe Wanty will join in.

But yeah, I don't think it's a clear sprint either. Denz also said that it's going to be a day for the breakaway.

In Südtirol and the Trentino Pergine is mainly know for it's infamous asylum that closed 20 years ago. There's even the saying about someone being "a case for Pergine" to describe a crazy person.
In the Ruhr Area we've got that with Marl-Sinsen where an infamous kids psychiatry is located!

We wanted to reside at Kaltern originally, but had forgotten to make a reservation for the Camping ground!

I would rather send Mayrhofer on the break

maybe, but it's Dainese's home stage, so I'd guess they'll support him a bit for once. Or he goes for the break himself today.
He finished with the other sprinters yesterday so he should be recovered from bronchitis.

Maybe Laporte will win. This stage has almost the same place and role in the race where he won in the Tour last year, and the stage finish has almost the same name as that city (Caorle/Cahors).

It's a little problem he isn't in the race, though.

Maybe Movistar does Movistar stuff and sends Max Kanter up the road, rather than chasing. Because they think Rubio is more likely to give them a 2nd stage win than Gaviria and want to save energy.

Only that this time around it might be sensible!
