Say what you want about the mid route, but this kind of mountain stages don't happen at the Tour.

That's not about the route. Simply about the level of competition. With Pog or Vingegaard in the race the story of the stage would be about them being selfish because they caught the Astana boys on the climb instead of gifting a stage to the breakaway.

yeah, but as I said before: the mountain jersey isn't worth much. A stage victory is 10 times as important
According to you, sure. But Fortunato already has a stage win, and is in the KoM jersey (his obvious goal for the season) in part thanks to Scaroni. Crazy though it seems, you might have a different ranking of priorities to Fortunato

Scaroni has been a stellar team-mate for Fortunato, Fortunato has won the KoM and has a Zoncolan win in the past - it's not all about personal glory, sometimes you help friends and teammates. This is part of the sport which, after all, is also a team sport.
I agree about all this, and it would have been a totally different story if Fortunato had won a stage already (this year). But as he has not, I just think the stronger rider should have been allowed to take it.

What if he crashes out tomorrow? So far he has taken nothing from this Giro.
