I've lost count of the times Carapaz has tried to drop del Toro after Yates was ahead of them. He just couldn't do it.

Well Carapaz did nearly blow entirely near the end of the Finestre riding his tail off to drop del Toro and catch Yates. When he clearly was doing neither, and nearly took himself out, that's when he just sat on del Toro's wheel. So you saw flat out racing from one of the two until he had nothing left. It is just that happened before the final climb

Yup, I don’t understand the comments that Carapaz didn’t try. Then it was up to Del Toro to push the pace.

Credit where credit is due. I think this stage, was ridden with pure entertainment by the riders, was good—no matter who you wanted to win or not. This was panache and ballsy attack I always cheer for that, kudos, and the strongest won, well deserved.

The level, however, throughout this Giro is obviously lackluster, but it always was with the biggest names crashing out. Also somewhat feels right for Yatesy after 2018, full circle.

He couldn’t drop him on the Fenestre, but if they’d kept Yates within 10-20s and close enough to bridge then other options come into play.

I think especially given how fresh Del Toro seemed getting across the line that MOST of the blame probably falls to UAE, but to give Carapaz a pass on it is letting him off easy. IMHO.

Oh yeah, didn't mean to mislead, I REALLY appreciated what Carapaz tried to do today, he was all in early on. For me it the valley, as Sean Kelly basically stated, even the juniors know there is one tactic there, and if you want to win it's team time trialing to shut down Yates, THEN worry about each other.

It's really easy before though, and it's the only 60 minute climb they do full gas from the start.

They little ^or v number shows a sort of manual correction they do based on estimated fatigue or circumstances or whatever, but I think they often estimate how easy a day has been or how great circumstances are.

Their number has basically the entire top 10 dropping a personal best.

They will probably update the numbers in the following hours but the performance index is telling. Anything above 90 is extreme.

Have said it before a few times, Yates should have left Jayco years ago. He was too comfortable there and not making any progress. Really pleased for him, but he could have had lot more success.

I was interested in how S.Yates would go at Jumbo with a different training regime. At jayco he was given lots of independence to follow the teams training program, while most of the altitude was done from his home in Andorra. Its a different story at Visma where there is more detail in preparation.
