It's unfortunate Trek wanted to control the stage--certainly Bora would not have tried to control so we could have had a much more interesting break situation and some attacks on the climb. Perhaps they will get their just desserts and Mads will lose the sprint.
I don't think you can really blame a team for trying to win. It's up to the others to force the issue, and it was only points addicts Astana who did.

Fuglsang still one of the most selfless riders in the peleton. Despite being a GC rider for Israel he sacrificed himself to drive Strong back into the peleton. Similar to how he sacrificed a stage win for Nibalis GC in the Tour. And remember, it's not just teammates he's looking after, Alaphilippe wouldn't have half of his career in the classics if not for him.
and he does it without collecting any salary
