although it's not the tactic, it'a actually strategic to not get the jersey and have to defend it early on.
I know, I am not new to cycling. I am well aware what the convention is.
But I never got it, it is seriously flawed reasoning to me. Take it, lose next day, if you don't want to defend it. Means you are 1 up on where you would have been for the sponsor
and still have a strategic approach that is sound. Just missing it means putting the same amount of effort in on the day, but without the 1 day trophy.
Plus would miss with everybody's else's mind, if they all feel so strong you ought to defend it and you would juts not do it. Means they can't "depend" on your efforts to fix their problems in future stages. Double whammy.
