A lot of talk in here about how the teams messed this up. In my opinion, only A&S, Androni, Astana and BMC messed this up. Liquigas are fine, they have two excellent climbers in the break who are well placed on GC, and they have the best team. They will break Arroyo on the big climbs.

Liquigas are far from fine! they will not win with the riders they have in the break. it is just as bad for them as it is for astana or bmc.

just tuned in... can someone explain how a break like this actually happens. Did Astana, Liquigas and what's left of BMC just miss the start or fall asleep or something??

He was finishing in the autobus in Paris-Nice. Porte won't be able to hold it together in the third week over those mountains. He's not that type of rider, not yet anyway.

Saxo Bank's favourite way of preparing riders for peak form!

Cool. Instead of Universal Sports' scheduled TV coverage of the stage, they are showing Mr. T in an infomercial.

Both groups are going to lose a lot of people going up this climb.

Tondo already dropped from the lead group, according to Rai commentators.

I see a Sky falling back, and a Caisse.

The break is climbing, the "peloton" isn't though
might be a silly question but could a smaller group get up the mountains faster than a bigger group?

or in saying that could one of the main contenders in the maglina rosa group attack then

If Arroyo and Porte can win the Giro, then Agnoli and Kiserlovski can win it.

Depends. The break haven't been playing catchup all day like the Vino group. But they have been on the front all the time.
