can't see them catching them - reckon the maglia rosa group isn't large enough.
would no doubt help if BMC had a few extra riders in there though...

but 13mins in 50kms is massive - isn't the usual rate approximately a minute per 10ks?

Evans will still probably take home the points jersey. He'll be consistently up there in the mountain stages, especially if he has a gap to get back.

It was me that said this was Evans' to lose, but I did add, if he lost it, it's because his team were embarrassing or he was an idiot. It's been a combination of both really, in letting this group go and being too weak a team to control it before it got too big.

More surprised that Astana let these guys go. I guess that while Evans and the "bigs" (Basso,Nibali, Scarponi, Cunego, Garzelli) were watched closely, Sastre quietly slipped away. Like a ninja, if you will. He was less of a threat. Was.

There is no way the break gets brought back, it's just a question now of how many people in the break are going to leap-frog Vino on GC. Sastre needs nine and a half minutes, Wiggo ten.

might be a silly question but could a smaller group get up the mountains faster than a bigger group?

or in saying that could one of the main contenders in the maglina rosa group attack then

they couldn't make up 13 mins in the 8km climb on the lead group by themselves so they'd then be left isolated. better to take a minute longer to climb and stay with the group

no, the maglia rosa group are a much better climbing group.

... How?
The Maglia Rosa group has gotten pretty small. In the one shot I got of Cuddles he looked ok though.

none of them will win. no way!

Which is why Liquigas is still fine. Sastre and Wiggins are too far behind to be a threat, because the gap will go down and they aren't in top form.

It's not much of an excuse, since they didn't start chasing till it was 18

That makes sense. Sneaky of the Giro to have a radio-free day and not even announce it beforehand! :D
