With that sprint, Basso kept Nibali on the podium for now.

Top 8 GC:

1. Basso 00:00
2. Arroyo + 1:15
3. Nibali + 2:56
4. Scarponi + 2:57
5. Evans + 3:47
6. Porte + 7:25
7. Vino + 7:31
8. Sastre + 8:55

Too short of a TT tomorrow for Cuddles to pull back a whole minute on Nibs and Scarponi. Great ride by Porte again. Maybe Vino spent just that bit too much energy today to allow Porte to hold him off tomorrow?
A fantastic Giro!
Best GT I've seen in 12 years!

Lucky? Mollema should've been in the break himself. No use moaning about that.

agreed. Can't down peg porte for showing initiative. Same goes for Arroyyo.

Anyway who cares, mollema has had an excellent giro, irregardless of porte, and in the end this giro was a learning process. I don't need a white jersey to validate the fact that he has potential.

Rather than ranking them, I'm happy for all the young guys who did well. What a great experience for them, to hold their own amongst the leaders in this Giro.

I'm happy (and astounded) that Porte has managed to hold on as well as he did. And I'm happy there are several exciting young Dutch riders to watch in the years ahead.

Very nicely timed attack from Evans. Gets some points to increase his lead in that classification. Gets the time bonus for second and makes up some time on Scarponi and Nibali which is important since he is only 1.30 off the podium. Now his deficit is under a minute. Makes the final time trial interesting.

So if Arroyo had won the Giro, it would have been down to pure strength rather than luck? No way.

Luck was involved. But -especially in this case - you make your own luck. Porte did so.

Hey. Guess what. There is more to winning bike races than strength and luck. Hope this helps.

Nice to see Australia have a potential talent in GT's also.

To win the Giro I think you need strength, skill, a strong team AND luck.

Neither.

Strength and attentive riding.
Mollmea could have been in the break.

I don't want to take anything away from the great performance of Mollema, I think he made an exceptional GT debut, but Porte has impressed me more personally. Same with Kruijswijk.

Gain time over Arroyo.

Nope, Scarponi want 3rd place at the end of Giro and Basso's goal is 3rd place for Nibali and Maglia Rosa for himself ( 8 sec bonification for 3rd place goes to Basso and not to Scarponi )
General classification after stage 20
1. Basso
2. Arroyo 0:01:07
3. Nibali 0:02:48
4. Scarponi 0:02:49

I know, he has the same kind of talent for positioning that Vino has. And actually I thought Porte would get utterly crushed in the mountains. He didn't, so chapeau to him. After all, the time Mollema won in the mountain stages was only something like 4 mins or so.

I wonder if Porte can hold off Vino for 6th place in tomorrows TT?

I am hoping Scarponi can get the 3rd over Nabali. No reason why really, just would like 3 different teams on the podium.

Yup exactly, that would mean Arroyo was by far the best, according to them.
Oh well forget about it. Mollema is the better climber than Porte and Porte is the better time trial specialist and got free time. Well played.
Since Mollema is 2 years younger and only rides a bike since 5 years, he'll have a lot more progression margin anyway

If Arroyo had gained 30 minutes to L'Aquila and lost 5 minutes every mountain stage, eventually holding on by 12 seconds over Basso... That would be lucky.

But he didn't. He fought for his place every kilometer of the way, very well at times. If he'd hung on for the win he would've fully deserved it.

Don't diminish Porte's achievement by saying he got 'free time', he didn't. He made the right move in the right stage. That's racing.

 I didn't realize porte was 25. I just assumed he was 22 or something.
Mollema's progress is good.

 unnecessary comparison!! edit: nvm :p

I agree though, Porte thoroughly deserves his white jersey.

Kruijswijk has forsure been a surprise. kudos to him, and all the youngsters at the giro.

A 56 man break is free time? Right...

Again, for me, Porte came more out of the blue than a former L'Avenir winner.
Kruijswijk is a neo who got called in at the last moment.

I think Mollema did great and it shows he has a great future, but in their category Porte did best. Great TT's, not missing important breaks and tough in the mountains.
