I honestly don't know how the peleton fucked that up

Sky went too early, columbia went far to early and there were no teams left to take it up.. but if sky/htc didnt go when they did the breakaway would have won easy...

Thinking of a lead-out they want far too early indeed, but concerning actually catching the breakaway both HTC and Sky went far too late.

Great to see breakaway win. Tough, a bit sad about Arashiro, he made most of the work during last 1.5 km´s. Withouth him pushing, peloton would have caught them.

It is too bad about Arashiro. He was in the break for a little over 140kms. He was in front alone for 10kms before Voss, Pineau, and Fouchard decided to join him.

Sporza (Belgian TV) thinks red jersey for Pineau too, though there seems to be some confusion about the rules. That'd be a great reward.

well done by the breakaway, got keep the peloton on it's toes. Looks like Greipel will have to prove his mustard another day, he might have to wait until stage 9 now.

it would never have come to counting last corners if the sprinters teams not miscalculated and turned up the pressure earlier. simple as that.

there also seems to have been confusion about the size of the gap. race radio according the commentary i listened to reported 55 seconds at 10 km whilst the actual was smaller.

Blimey I enjoyed that - there were some fantastic late kicks by the breakaway in the last km. So good to see a breakaway stay away.

So is Arashiro the first Japanese rider to finish on the podium of a stage? I'm looking for any consolation prize I can for this kid.

Compliments to the 3 guys, they really gave all.
I wished Arashiro to take it as he's quiet fast but was too nervous probably and ended being the one who worked more.

Its difficult for HTC dragging breaks back knowing their main sprinter Grieple is likely to be too slow, blow it or choke or whatever. If Cav was there they would of been brought back very quickly.

But still Good to see the break stay away, thats always good.

Awesome ride by the break. The finish was even better, with the peloton just behind. Great sight that was.

Though the Bouygues (if I remember correctly) rider off roading in one of the descends was a peculiar sight as well...

Pineau should give half his prize money to Arashiro, he rode in true kamikaze style from 1500m out and saved the break.

The chase was wierd, it seems from looking at the live report that Columbia and Garmin didn't help Lampre or Liquigas with the chase early, which was why the gap was still a minute with 7km to go. Then Columbia, Garmin and Sky panicked and threw all their guys on the front, going full gas, and burned them all out in 5km without bringing the race back, so the chase actually slowed down a bit going in to the final few kilometres. By the time the pack reached the finishing straight all the organisation was gone and they were weaving back and forth across the road.

Apparently it is, because he's on stage right now :) He doesn't seem to be used to standing on the podium. Cute.

Would've thought Farrar would get the points jersey, as he has a win + today's 4th place, guess today wasn't Pineau's only good result.

Ahh, looking at the results, Pineau got some points for an intermediate sprint while he was in the break. He and Farrar tied with 39 points apiece.

Unless Greipel can find some form and hold some wheels Farrar looks like he has an excellent chance to take the points jersey at the end of three weeks.

I think he's a given. Greipel is sick and Farrar can climb far better, so he'll get a ton of points more.

How much longer can Greipel keep using this virus as an excuse it's been a week now. Today HTC were pulling back the break realised Greipel had lost the wheel again, sat up to wait for him and reformed before starting all over again enabling him to get 8th. Is it really the bug or is he lossing his bottle?

Well done to the breakway ;)
