In fact, all of last year in every GT it seemed like TS kept pushing into the red while Sky waited patiently and attacked at the last minute. And then AC couldnt keep up. Bizarre.

Did you even watch any of the GT's last year?

Yes I did sir. I remember AC getting left behind a few times by Froome and Quintana. In general, TS seems to push into red hoping the Potential Podium guys (and I'm really referring only to the top 2-3 guys, pls dont tell me AC is worried abt the top 10 guys) would blow up which almost never ever happens anyways. In fact i remem in stage (2014? 2013?) AC and Roman went crazy on a descent even but ended being beaten up by Froome and Co.

6 minutes gap is nothing in this terrain. If Astana decides to ride, there's no chance he'll make it. They probably won't though. It's clear that Tiralongo is in the break to win the stage, not to help Aru later.

This terrain is so overrated.

Aru to attack on the last climb, and then Tiralongo will wait for him at the descent in case he drops anyone.

Very likely, although Tiralongo didnt work and he has a good possibility to win the stage.

Aru could do that even if he dont drop anybody, becouse the finish km as well are in some climb.

And I am not really asking about AC winning the GT or not, just curious why the push to red. And it seems to cook them (TS) pretty good in the weeks that follow leaving AC isolated on the high mountains when he really needs them.

That is the price of getting the leader's jersey early.

Alpe d'Huez 2013. A lot have happened since then, to say the least...

Yes, I still find it unreal, especially since I've never seen it on my local Eurosport, only through streaming

I believe Froome put time into AC on 1 GT stage last year, while getting beat on several. Same for Quintana except it was a TTT. In the end, Contador took 1st, Froome 2nd, and Quintana DNF.

Now you seem to be referencing things from 2013 when Contador was weak. His team was quite good that year and even helped him gain time on stages that you wouldn't normally expect (the flat echelon stage).

There is no terrain to speak of except a 3km 9% climb.

Berto, will be isolated either way as Basso is crap, Rogers not in super shape and Kreuziger also a bit off top shape.

Is Paulinho still there? Or did he drop on the false flat before the Terminio.

Unless something crazy is about to happen, astana truly dropped the ball with this stage.

They'll regret this, contador doesn't leave too many openings in a GT.

True, but it was what you could expect.

^ well, usually this is what you get. however, with astana going like locomotives, some of us got their hopes up. I admit expecting something else on this stage, too. and this was not entirely unreasonable IMO, since aru needs time.

let's see if the finale is at least remotely entertaining.

Looks as this is about to be the on forehand most overhyped stage ever. Total anti-climax.
Not even close. The last few Giros have had loads. But contador wasn't in them so you probably didn't watch.
