On that 1st category climb (before the live images) the group of the GC contenders only consisted out of Kangert, Landa, Cataldo, Aru, Contador, Kreuziger, Porte, Konig, Nieve, Cunego, Van Den Broeck, Uran, Intxausti, Monfort and Amador.

6 minutes gap is nothing in this terrain. If Astana decides to ride, there's no chance he'll make it. They probably won't though. It's clear that Tiralongo is in the break to win the stage, not to help Aru later.

I am not really a newbie here but dont watch enough of cycling to have my feel on the pulse so to speak.

can somebody explain to me why TS is putting in so much effort everyday? I find it hard to understand. In general, when it comes to 1-on-1 situations I would think AC is pretty strong and everybody knows that. I understand them wanting to stay clear of any pi le ups in the peloton but to do the major work everyday in every GT seems very senseless. In fact, all of last year in every GT it seemed like TS kept pushing into the red while Sky waited patiently and attacked at the last minute. And then AC couldnt keep up. Bizarre.

I am not sure why AC and TS are not sitting back and letting Astana and Sky do all the work.

In stage racing the team with the leader's jersey is expected to ride at the front even if they have no tactical motivation to do so. They're not riding very hard.

Aru to attack on the last climb, and then Tiralongo will wait for him at the descent in case he drops anyone.

Which GC did Sky attack AC? He won the Vuelta and abandoned the TDF. They have the Maglia Rosa, and together with keeping AC out of trouble, it is a good reason to work. But in the coming days they won't because of the flat courses...

He's obviously referring to 2013. But yeah, obviously Tinkoff-Saxo are just trying to keep the status quo at a moderate pace with their current tactics.

He wrote "last year" so i figured he meant 2014. But he is right about 2013 if that's what he meant. Hard to make conclusions within the first week of the Giro, but we will see how Tinkoff-Saxo performes in the 3rd week
