Well, GVA must be doing something right, seeing the races he won this year... He was always accused of racing dumb, working too much for others. Like I said earlier, they never gapped the peloton, so why the hell would GVA have to work while there were teams with multiple riders there in the group? Sagan does this act ('everyone is working against me') waaaay too often.

GVA used to race dumb indeed. Doing a lot of attacks and then doing all the work in the group. And then he got flamed for always losing. I cannot blame him for riding smarter. But these 2 races he was really passive, more so than in the first part of the year.

I think it's because he's so focussed on WT points. He doesn't care as much about the win anymore, but more if his opponents get enough WT points. Which was before this race Dumoulin. Well he won't have to worry because he's 1000 points in front. 130 in front of Froome who will not ride Lombardy or China anyway.
So the WT win is his. Hope GVA starts racing again now

I know how he used to ride. He was basicly my second favourite rider. I still like him when he ride the races where Sagan is not riding. I was probably first here who said here he would win the og rr. And I was cheering for him all the race in Rio.
I hate when he is wheelsuckung Sagan in break just to beat him on the line, but I understand it and i can live with it. It is a bazic of cycling. But letting the break win just because you do not want to be outsprinted again and claiming it as smart racing is something I have a problem with.
If he said" I did not have legs or we fuc.. up and gave them too long leach" I would not say a word. But "I was riding smart todoy". WTF.
I agree with comnents like Sagan act like baby, he looks like a tool" I hate it as well. But if this negative racing is OK , just because Sagan was beaten , then waw.

Sagan has had enough of Van Avermaet, and rightfully so.

lol, that picture sumarizes it pretty well.
Foolish by Sagan. Who does he think he is? GVA should just mark the *** out of Sagan in the Worlds and let Naesen, Gilbert, Stuyven etc go up the road.

I think that's the sensible tactic to do. With the team that Belgian have, they can afford to send them up the road and let GVA in Sagan's wheel. Avermaet is the rider in the Belgian squad who can match Sagan's attack better, and showed plenty of times that he can outsprint him after an hard race.

It is and if it gets selective, Sagan can't really do nothing about it unless he has godly legs and rides GVA out of the wheel. This is obviously assuming it wont end in a sprint, but I dont think it will, even with the likes of Norway and Australia.

I generally agree with you, but I don't know what GVA actually said. I think he must've said more than that, because normally he would (and should) not be happy with a 7th place.

He said he had the best legs he ever had in Montreal, but was disappointed in his team.

This. I'm tired of Sagan doing this act everytime.

What LS and I have said for many years now seems to be accepted. Sagan is just a small kid who never will grow up.

Yeah, small kid who wins a lot :p

Sagan made a right decision imo. He was beaten many times by GVA using this tactics. He doesn't want to allow that anymore. If he means to beat him, he'll have to work as much as Sagan.

Maybe GVA was just not good enough to beat Sagan, that's why he decided not to do much... Maybe he's just pieking for the Worlds, the rest is training...
GVA said he had his best ever legs in Montreal. And he won it last year, so the legs were better this year. I don't think he was not good enough. Just too hesitant

"A big group went, and they had a good advantage on the last lap, and it was hard to catch them because they were strong guys. We tried, but in the end, I didn't have anyone in the group with me, and we lost a few more seconds, and then you know you're just sprinting for a top ten place."

"It was a different approach to last year. We went away with a good group of guys, but this time we had no one in front. I won the sprint from the bunch behind, and I had a really good feeling today, probably my best in Montreal, but I didn't get the win. I am a bit disappointed as I was probably one of the strongest guys in the race today and you expect to win."

I was one of the strongest in the race today, hence why I didn't bother pulling. This is the same guy who is so damn desperate about winning the meaningless WorldTour ranking. He is probably having nightmares about Dumoulin, who couldn't and doesn't give a damn about something so meaningless and irrelevant.

I'm glad Sagan has reached the point that if he is not able to win, he'll be deciding who is or who isn't going to win.

The only time I remember Van Avermaet won by sucking Sagan's wheel was a Tirreno stage last year. Probably he was in bad shape back then.

In all other cases, he won in style.

Sagan on the other hand is primarily a sprinter, which means a wheelsucker by definition. The Quebec win is just an extra example of it. I know it's not convenient to say it on these boards but it nonetheless is true. Don't blame me, blame reality.

Nailed it - He's just been riding around in a safe manner continuing to rack up points - Has shown no aggression since the Classics.

Hahahaha.

I can see reasons why some people might not like Sagan. but being a wheelsucker is not one of them.
