Well a victory is a victory and it surely as hell is not a sign of going backwards at least. Besides, Balaverde doesnt have to be on top of his game to own Mur.

He has it in his pockets unless he doesnt mess up.

Yes he needs to be on the top of his game to win on the Mur. With a good Purito and Dan Martin, he needs to be in top shape. Come on, he lost plenty of times on the Muy in his prime days.

And he won it the last 2 years, destroying purito. Let's not be biased shall we? He's the clear favorite.

You don't read? I say he will not win if he is not in top shape. Not that's he not going to win if he's in shape  .

He only beated Purito this year. Fair and square. But it will be a lot closer this Tour, mark my words.

Actually, in the end, it wasn't as close, so you're wrong :D

Can't believe he wasn't there at the finish with J.Rod.Suitable TDF route for him and he seems he doesn't give a **** anymore :( At every split he's caught behind.

Yeah, it's seems unlikely he'll do anything this Tour. Really disappointing.

I bought your pre race hype and now I'm dead last in my fantasy cycling league :D

Hopefully he'll have a monster peak for Vuelta and Lombardia.

Should have went with the markets, instead. Valverde is a bit of a blind spot for me. ;)

Was held up by Froome today unfortunately:

Quintana’s teammate Alejandro Valverde also suffered a crash on stage 6, albeit earlier in the stage, and the Movistar squad reported that he sustained blows to is gluteus, left calf and back, but confirmed that his race is not in jeopardy.

Indeed, Valverde had hoped to sprint for the stage win on Thursday, only to be slowed by the crash in the finale. “It was going to be difficult to fight for the win on that finish but after the swerve from Froome it became impossible,” he said. “But we’ve been given the same time, so it’s not a problem.”

Poor Piti, couldn't compete for the stage because he was held up by someone pushed to the right by a crash, no thought for his teammate involved

Nawt wrong with that. Leadership needs to be taken, it can't be given.

Tomorrow, Valverde needs to win.

He doesn't have the form to win. Not at this stage of the Tour.

We'll see, seems to me that he's getting better every day...

Based on what? On the cobbles stage he had to let the wheel of (i think) Stybar, and was passed by Froome (!).

Re: Re:

Part of the problem is within the team. It looks like Movistar hasnt sorted out the hierarchy in the team yet. Is Bala expected to ride for Quintana during these opening stages or not? On the outset it looks as he clearly doesnt give a *** about Nairo and the situation stirs a team in somewhat disarray, all the more since they dont know if they should just protect Nairo or help Bala go for stages this early on. When Bala communicates he doesnt care about Nairo then most likely there will be divisions in Movistar. That said, he has looked a bit off this far.

The collective effort is therefore just a big "meh".

Yeah, but he closed that gap by himself, dragging Nibali and TJVG with him. Didn't saw Contador, Purito or Quintana in that group though...

That's because everyone saying Valverde is some sort of cobbles specialist. But he was dropped by Froome and Nibbles after he closed the gap
